Accessing UEFI To Calibrate My Battery

I bought a new battery for my laptop but the computer needs to reset/calibrate. I've already downloaded the UEFI directly from HP's own website. But when I follow the instructions for bringing it p (pressing F-2), the only thing that happens is my screen dims. I've checked Youtube videos, too. One said to tap on F-1, but that didn't get me anywhere. Another suggested restarting the laptop and holding down on the F-2 key until system diagnostics comes up, but even when doing that, it only brought me to my computer log in screen. This is becoming ridiculous. Does anyone have this problem (not even being able to get either UEFI to come up after download OR getting system diagnostics to come up even after holding down the F-2 key or even the F-1 key as one Youtuber said in his video)?

I've got Windows 10, BTW and it's fine for me (I'm not downloading windows 11).

Hi, welcome to tenforums. Have you tried F10 during POST? The exact key may depend on the BIOS you have:
    https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/tech-t...up-windows-pcs

    Note: from that:
If your PC goes through its power on self-test startup too quickly, you can also enter BIOS through Windows 10’s advanced start menu recovery settings.
Boot to UEFI Firmware Settings from inside Windows 10

I've already downloaded the UEFI directly from HP's own website.
Not sure why you needed to do that - do you mean you were trying to update it?

Which is your laptop? No specs.. click 'My Computers' under my post for comparison, Tutorial available if needed in the searchable Tutorials section.

Not sure if you're trying to convert from Legacy BIOS to UEFI.

diagnostics to come up even after holding down the F-2 key
I think perhaps it's your method.
You do not "hold down" the F2 key, you repeatedly tap after pressing the power on button.
What you basicly do is the following:

    1. Fully charge the battery using power adapter
    2. Disconnect the power adapter and shut down.
    3. Power up and immediately start tapping the F2 key to bring up the HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI
    4. Select Components
    5. Select Memory
6 Select Extensive test -Loop until error

Go have lunch until battery is fully discharged
Reconnect the power adapter for few hours with the laptop shut off.

Where did you see to use the F2 key?

For HP Pavilion notebooks, keep tapping the F10 key at boot.
For HP Envy DV6/DV7 notebooks and other HP laptops/notebooks, keep pressing the ESC key at boot.

    Hope this helps...

    See manual calibration below:

Thank you, @fishingfool, for the URL.

However, I note the advice is to use ESC first to pop up the 'startup menu' then use F2 to open the 'Component Tests' menu:

As a result, my advice stands...

    Who says you need to?
I have never had to calibrate a lithium battery. I have just put them in and started using them.
I calibrated NiCd & NiMH batteries a few times before the turn of the century.

    Why?
Your computer already has its Uefi.

As the others have said, you need to start repeatedly tapping the relevant key as soon as the HP logo appears when the computer starts up. If the Windows circling dots appear then it's too late and you'll have to restart & try again.
The 'relevant key' varies between manufacturers & sometimes between model ranges.
I believe that all HP laptops use F10 as my HP desktop does. You have not identified your model.
My HP Pavilion desktop uses F10 to get into the Uefi, F9 to get into the Boot options menu, Esc to get into Startup options.
I suppose that it's possible that you need to press the Fn key [on the lower left of your laptop's keyboard] at the same time as the F10 key but I'd be surprised.

    All the best,
    Denis
