Since the drive's label includes the word backup, I wonder
    - where that folder is a backup from, and
    - what utility was used to make the backup.

It's possible that it is a backup of a folder that you would not normally have access to.
Perhaps it was not backed up deliberately.

    Try this method for removal.
    left click on the file/folder
    RIGHT click on the selection
    select "Properties"
    select the "Details" tab
ai the bottom of the window, select "Remove properties and personal information "
In the new window, select the SECOND radio button "Remove the following properties from this file "
in the new window select "Select all "
    then select "O.K."
in the "Details " tab window select "O.K."
    Should now be deleted.

It's a folder, not a file, probably just used as a placeholder by a running process.

Use something like LockHunter. It's a free tool that will show you what process has a file, folder or drive 'locked' and gives you the opportunity to unlock the process.

Download it, unblock it and install it. You'll end up with a context menu entry invoked by right-clicking on a file, folder or drive.

I've been using it for years and it's proved invaluable, especially for USB sticks that don't want to be ejected 'cos they're in use.

    Hope this helps...
