I have never had a Windows password so far as I can remember. The PCs were set up by my deceased husband prior to 2018 when he became ill. He purchased or updated to Office 2016 which I am stil
l using. I tried to collect up his passwords when I had to amalgamate his records with mine but I have no recollection of a Windows one.
If the PC booted into one account without any login prompt at all, then it's possible this was done:
Sign in User Account Automatically at Windows 10 Startup

Even if that is done, there are circumstances when the user is prompted for the password for the account, which still exists. The same is true if a PIN or other means of logging in is used.

    Hello @PostmanPuzzled,

Just Copy & Paste the following command into a CMD Prompt and press Enter.

    Code:

    slmgr /xpr

    I hope this helps.

The capitals are not essential. I just used them so you could see the spelling easily.

    Sorry everyone.
as you have prob gathered my eye sight is not what it was and sometimes when you enlarge and reduce text the l may appear to change to i. After all that Windows message says Windows is permanently activated !

Thanks very much anyway. At least that is clarified.

I think the best thing to do is to close this thread as I can presently get into
Settings. I do need to remove the present Local Admin account and create a new user but will look forn Tutorials on that.
Thankyou very much for all your inputs. I don`t think there is any point in my trying to sort the Windows password until I have got rid of the corrupt User Account.

I will mark this thread as closed.

    Patrice,

    Don't remove anything.
Add a new local, password-protected Admin user account if you need to and simply make a note in next year's calendar to remove the old account if you want to.
This is a long thread and I cannot find a post that explains why you want to remove your current local Admin user account.

There are links to the relevant account creation tutorials in

    All the best,

Try Account Profile Fixer. If it works, it will save you a lot of steps.

    Patrice,

Do note that that utility does not fix anything. Its name is misleading. It just automates the steps you need to take to create a new local Admin user account to use instead of the one you think needs to be removed. It is a convenience not a repair tool.
You can either do it yourself using the procedures in the linked tutorials or you can use that utility.

    Thanks Denis.

I have created a new user account, at present just a standard account. Can I have more than 1 administrator account >
I am nervous about reducing the only present account with administrator status to standard user in case I cannot get it backc. I am about to create an image backup with Macrium and would much prefer to complete that before I make any more changes, for obvious reasons.

Many thanks for listening all of you.
