After Display Turns Off - cannot log back into Windows after waking up

    OS = LTSC 2021 - 21H2 en-gb

    Hi Guys

I'm having a weird problem with Windows and the Power Option: Turn Off The Display.
If I enable Turn Off The Display with a specified time and the display turns off, when I try to wake it back up I am presented with a blue screen without any login options. There is no username or password fields only 3 buttons in the bottom right (Internet, Ease of Access & Power options). These all work and I can successfully interact with them.

The screen I see is very similar to this image from another post: (Windows Remote Desktop: Can't re-login after screen-saver auto lock)

No hot keys work e.g. CTRL+ALT+DEL or ⊞Win + xyz

The screen saver is disabled and the option to display log-on on resume is also unticked.

I cannot find any other setting that would cause this. I have re-installed Windows and the problem still exists.

I have yet to solve this issue properly - but I have found a strange workaround.

If I set a blank screensaver, with the 'display log-on on resume' option unticked, to happen before the Turn Off The Display. Then when I wake the computer up it displays the desktop correctly without the blank login screen showing.

I'd still like to understand why the issue is happening at all so will keep on testing & searching for answers.

I hesitate to reply because these are not direct parallels but they seem, to me, to be close enough for them to be of use to you probably / possibly / maybe / ...
No password prompt at login screen. Can not login - TenForums
No login box at sign in screen on wakeup - HPForum

In addition, some people have reported that
Settings, Accounts, Sign-in options, Privacy - use my sign-in info ...
has surprising effects elsewhere in the system so might well be worth experimenting with.

Sorry if these are just a waste of time,
    Best of luck,
    Denis

Well you've touched on something there with the HP topic. Hardware!
I have an MSR device installed. Though this should act like a keyboard, it will be worth investigating.
I will have a play with that tomorrow as I've run out of time today.

Thank you for posting, no matter how trivial you may think.
I hadn't gone down the thought process of peripherals partly because I have used this MSR before but on different versions of Windows & slightly different hardware, nobody has ever highlighted this issue and they would have being how detremental it would be to our userbase.

Slight delay in testing but sadly the MSR is not the cause.

I now have two machines side by side, one with MSR and one without, they both exhibit the same problem still.

I'm going to test with the US version of the LTSC ISO, as I have had differences with ISO's in the past.
For example the LTSC 2019 UK version had a Touchscreen bug, not present in the US version of the ISO.

At last, I have found the cause! Unfortunately I've had a huge delay elsewhere at work which is why I'm only revisiting this 4 months later.
My suspicions around UK vs US iso were correct. And again Try3 you were very close!

So the setting is located: Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options
    The option is:
    - 'Require sign-in'
(If you've been away, when should Windows require you to sign in again).

    - On the US version of the ISO, the correct behaviour is experienced.
The Login Screen appears with the login fields.

    - On the UK version of the ISO, the wrong behaviour is experienced.
The Login Screen appears but without the login fields.

There is certainly a bug with the UK version, and I may report/research further.
It's possible there's been an update to the ISO, however, having downloaded all the Windows updates, the issue remains unfixed.

What's weird, and irrespective of ISO locale, is that regardless of the time set (excluding 'Never'), it always displays the Login Screen. So there is another bug there where for me any way the Time out is ignored, unless you set it to Never.

What's really annoying about this situation is that this setting is a PowerCFG related function, yet Microsoft has decided to put the 'Require sign-in' feature in completely an unrelated place that you wouldn't make the connection. Anyway I digress.

Following this tutorial I get the desired results: I've chosen to use the PowerCFG option.

    I'm glad it's been resolved.

The latest ISO is for Version 22H2 [the Version that we'll all stay with until October 2025] so it would be worth experimenting with this if you have time.
    - MS might issue updated ISOs between now 7 then but the Version will stay the same.
    - Updated ISOs would only differ in respect of which updates [such as Cumulative updates] are included.

    All the best,

LTSC 2021 will sadly be stuck on 21H2. The way to fix will be via KB or ISO update.
Which I have seen 'v2' ISOs of in the past.

    Understood.

On a more general note & assuming you don't already do this, you might like to make the time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

    All the best,
