    3 bugs with the Settings app since 21H1

    1. The first bug is that when you check for updates the button sometimes disappears and you have to close and reopen the app.

    2. When updating windows it doesn't auto refresh to show your download and install progression, you have to close the app and reopen it to get it to complete the updates.

    3. In the Privacy area, when you click on Background apps the mouse wheel scrolling sometimes doesn't work and you have to close the app and reopen it. Sometimes more than once.

    I'm on Windows 10 Home 21H2 19044.1586 now. I've noticed these problems since 21H1

    Not even, sometimes? I've reset the settings app many times, ran sfc /scannow, system maintenance and chkdsk . No problems anywhere, just with the settings app. Every driver that can be updated is updated to its latest, too

    @Konally

    I've had the 2nd one you mention about updating windows happen where it doesn't auto-refresh until you reopen the GUI for Windows Update. Matter of fact, I've had that problem since the inception of Windows 10.

    Look at it this way, since 2015, it only took them seven years to fix the Microsoft Store not auto-updating your purchased apps and now that they fixed the Microsoft store not auto-updating, their prize browser Edge Chromium won't update automatically.

    There is a thread HERE that explains why that is, and frankly I didn't like the answer he got and he never answered my questions in the thread or answered my personal message about it.

    1) Not sure what you mean with this problem. Every time I open Windows Update, I always see the "Check for updates" button:

    And when I push the button, the button disappears. (You said: "when you check for updates the button sometimes disappears").
    When I push that button, it always disappears while checking for updates. That's normal when it's doing this:

    2) I've never had this issue.
    3) I've went to "Background apps" several times. It was always able to scroll.

    Try running some Troubleshooters. Search for this title, and run these troubleshooters:

    The Check for Updates button it disappears like after you check for updates. So the button doesn't load back up like it's supposed to. This has been happening a lot, but not every time.

    Also for the Background apps, it happens randomly. I go to disable the programs that I don't want running in the background so I disable them. I only have the Microsoft Store and Settings turned on. Put your PC to sleep then wake it up and check for updates and the button won't always load back up. I think it's sleep mode doing it

    @pepanee

    The "Check for updates" button disappearing after clicking on it is understandable; however, it isn't the fact that mine doesn't return either; it's the fact that the progress of the update being completed that will not display until the GUI is shutdown and reopened.

    I've put up with that since 2015 and there is no magic troubleshooter that has solved it in seven years. I eventually just went with using the .msu's from the update catalog because it is not on my end that the problem emanates from-------I just know it for a fact, because I have seen no outlined steps to fix it other than a troubleshooter from Microsoft.

    There are so many problems with the Settings app. If you go to Personalization and click on the Colors tab then turn of Transparency effects it hangs for a few seconds; then when you turn it back on it hangs again. Also on the same area clicking on recent colors then Windows colors it hangs as well.

    And I'm surprised Microsoft went ahead and released Windows 11 when there are so many bugs in Windows 10 still.

    The Check for updates one is huge. I know that there can't only be two of us with that problem

    Konally: You can try to reinstall your mouse drivers. That 'could' have a possibility of fixing that "Background apps" wheel scroll. Not sure. But it's worth the try if you wanna check that out.
    And with that other person's reply about the updates, now I see what you meant. I've never experienced that issue. And sorry, I have no solution for that.

    EyeInTheSky: I see. Now I understand by what the Thread Starter meant. You're experiencing the same problem as them. I have no clue how to fix that.
