    oldyoungguy,

Once I can help you get back to a normal set of PowerCfg -a results then you'll be able to adopt any number of approaches to mitigate the curse of S0. I believe that the priority must be getting those normal results.

By the way, Bree & I have different approaches to "taming" S0.
    - I avoid it kicking in at all [despite leaving it enabled] and I accept the power used up when I'm using the computer. I hibernate it when I'm not using it just as, on my good computers, I [S3] Sleep them when I'm not using them.
    - Bree adopts a different approach, explained in the link in Bree's last post.
Once you have a normal set of PowerCfg -a results then you'll be able to consider which approach best fits your circumstances.

    All the best,
    Denis

Thank you all you guys helped me and intended to help me.

This is the CsEnabled issue package I installed: How to Fix Missing Power Plans & Restore Advanced Power Settings | The link is in the description! - YouTube, there is a download link under its description section: DOWNLOAD: W10 Power Options CsEnabled Fix v5.0 (mediafire.com). I am sure I applied both the Scheme and Settings. But I am not sure I applied the Manual Default and Manual Advance. Probably I should apply them as well, at least the Sleep one? Or the Manual ones are just the manual version of the Schemes and Settings I applied already?

We bought this used Surface Pro 4 machine 2 yrs ago. My high schooler daughter is the user. Mostly she uses it at home plugged in. We found it drains the battery quickly overnight (down to 70%, 50% or die) if it is not plugged in. Then I started trying to fix it by using solutions from Google including reinstalling the Battery drivers. The latest action is to install the above CsEnabled package, which makes the machine the best status so far. 12 hours battery overnight, there are still 89% left. This is much better than before. I am happy with this. But the missing sleep option and "Some settings are managed by system administrator" (I will start a new thread for this issue.) still bother me. They indicate there is something unusual somewhere on the configuration. It will be better if they are fixed.

I would like to make this machine sleep when the lid is closed or the power button is pushed. Then it can quickly wake up when the power button is pushed again during the daytime working hours. I also need the hibernate option on the power menu to make it hibernate before I go to bed.

Thank you for your time and effort, everybody!

Admin account with "Some settings are managed by system administrator"

I am trying to change some power options from an Administrator account. When I click the "Change settings that are currently unavailable" on the first screen. The "Some settings are managed by system administrator" displayed on the second screen. The issue is I am the Administrator.

I'll check those YouTube things then almost certainly suggest undoing them.
    - One undoing will be using the tutorial I gave you a link to earlier on.
    - I think I know what the other undoing will be because I did not throw away my old notes when procedures changed three years ago. I'll study the YouTube links you posted so I can be sure what they did.

"CsEnabled package, which makes the machine the best status so far. 12 hours battery overnight, there are still 89% left." - That sounds more like a computer with S3 Sleep, which you do not have, or a computer that hibernated after a while.
"We found it drains the battery quickly overnight …" That's what S0 computers do. It does not use up the battery as quickly as being on & in use.
The aim of things like the CSEnabled change [prior to v1903] & the current PlatformaoOverrideWhatever thing is to disable S0 & re-enable S3 Sleep. It works for some computers. It has not worked on yours; your PowerCfg -a results make that clear].

There are in effect four Power/Computer states for an S0 Modern standby [aka S0 Low power idle] computer
    - Computer on, Monitor on
    - Computer on, Monitor off {The monitor turning off initiates S0 Modern standby, the progressively severe idle condition that suppresses, amongst other things, Task scheduler tasks}.
    - Hibernate
    - Off

There is no "Sleep" in the sense that we commonly use the term ["S3 Sleep"].
    - This is despite MS leaving the word Sleep dotted around the place such as in the descriptions of the later phases of S0 Modern standby [S0 is progressive. It will increasingly reduce the permitted activities as time passes.].

Or set your monitor timeout to Never in Power options and avoid S0 ever kicking in.
I've been trying to get the best of both worlds by setting my monitor timeout to never but having a fairly dark-screened screensaver licking in at 2 mins.

I am trying to get you back to a coherent set of PowerCfg -a results to get you back to a normal configuration & to see what settings are now changeable. After that, things like Admin account with "Some settings are managed by system administrator" can be addressed.

    All the best,

I have examined the download but there is no explanation of what each part of it does. I have searched within its many component files but I cannot find any reference to, for example, PlatformAoAcOverride to allow me to work backwards to find out what each bit does. It's a huge package with many individual actions [many of which are quite unnecessarily in hidden files] but I'd been expecting straightforward Registry editing files [.reg files] to alter CsEnabled & PlatformAoAcOverride Registry entries.
I cannot suggest how to undo the unknown actions.
I could suggest undoing the S0 disabling by using the tutorial but that is only part of what has been done and there is no reason to think that, on its own, it will sort out those disabled power options you are concerned about.

You are not going to like this but I suggest making a system image, backing up drivers then reinstalling Windows 10 and then making a fresh system image.
    - If I did that it would take me a week by the time I'd worked through Windows settings & settings within each of my applications.
That should give you a normal set of powercfg -a results and a firm base from which to proceed.
    - Then you can check your ability to set up things like the action for closing the lid and, if you can't then you can post a new thread to ask other Surface Pro 4 owners if they have managed to do so. And make a new system image afterwards.
    - When/if you can get the bare essentials done you can consider re-doing some of the jobs from that download, re-checking those bare essentials, making a new system image and trying the next one.

This is a lot of work. I have not done anything like this on my S0 computer. As I mentioned earlier, if I'm not using it then I hibernate it, turn it off altogether or leave it plugged in to power & suppress S0 by keeping the monitor on the whole time [albeit with a screensaver kicking in after a couple of minutes].

I'm happy to guide you through anything you do decide to do.

    All the best,
    Denis

I am sorry for the late response. It seems it is not an easy job to get the sleep back. I may do this later when I have enough free time. I have learned a lot from you guys here. I am lucky I found the right place for the Windows problems. I really appreciate you spent lots of time trying to help me. Many thanks!

Whenever you do find the time you can post back here with any questions.

My own to-do list still has entries from 1989.

Please keep being careful about using the term sleep.
    - When people use that term, they generally mean S3 Sleep - the thing that sends it to sleep in about a second, that resumes when told to in about a second, that allows Task scheduler tasks to wake the computer, that only drains the battery by about 0.5%-1% an hour, that we've all been used to for the last ten years or so.
    - If your computer is designed to use S0 Modern standby then it does not S3 Sleep. S0 Modern standby is a glorified and pretty useless idle condition.

Thanks for the rep. But I'll only deserve it when your computer is back up & fully operational.

    All the best,
    Denis

And I forgot - welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]
