setting my default search engine

21h1 win 10 pro

can anyone tell me how to set the default search engine? i want yahoo for my default engine? i was using yahoo and then yahoo started to show a large picture when i opened a new tab. i use chrome for a browser. go i try to add yahoo and that fails. so i deleted all the other search engines that are below the default section and then i added this info for yahoo and now when i open a tab i get my email search

so this is what i had for the main default section
the last are some of what was in the lower section for search engines

this is what i have in that space
Yahoo.
and now when i have yahoo for the default if for example i the plus and get a new tab and then go to the field just below the top tabs and type in win10 forums and hit enter i get yahoo email

You need to edit the Query URL field for yahoo (Default) and enter what I posted above, without the spaces. What you posted above goes to your mail, not yahoo search.

ok what i had to do was just replace the mail word for the search word. now i'm sure i had that before and for some reason, after a few days when i do an online search the page comes up with a photo on it and then another field in the center that I have to re-enter the terms to do the search. maybe i can insert what that looks like i have it saved. lets see if that image makes it into this reply!

ok maybe it will show here nope i get the pulldown for adding photos and i get to choose but it is not uploading for some reason.

is it here yet if this works you can see the picture i get and the box in the center that then lets me re-enter the search terems to do the search. how can i keep this from returning?

Please do yourself & other members a favor, post your pics inline and stop using cloud storage to display screenshots.

Many of us are very happy to volunteer our time to help out but having to login to cloud storage sites to see a simple screenshot is a huge PITA.

I use a wireless internet connection that is often very slow & stupid expensive.

Posting inline is very easy, if you need help, please ask.

If you're able to load the search engine correctly and the search parameter doesn't load (you have to re-enter the search detail) the problem is with the syntax/suffix codes used in the url.

I recall having to tweak the search url suffix codes in past, sometimes searching online for the correct syntax.

I know you didn't ask this, however; I can't help myself.

To add another search engine with Vivaldi, right-click the search box and select "Add as Search Engine".

FYI, I copied several of the search urls that I use for Vivaldi. Some of these are likely very specific to Vivaldi, however; I just wanted to demonstrate how the urls for search engines appear in my browser.

thanks for that help i turned it off. when i try to upload a photo sometimes it works with the popup that has a bunch of photos from the past, and sometimes it fails. today i had to post about 5 times before i got the photos to show. i did not know they were going thru a cloud unless that dropbox is what you're calling the cloud service. if it is then that was the only way i could get some of the photos to work and i will have to do that now and then i guess.

one of you mentioned a chrome yahoo Extention and when i used the link that did come up exactly to what i was getting. a big picture on the page with a search box in the center and i would have to enter the terms again. i did not like having to type twice. i had a time getting rid of that. now i know if it returns to see if google turned on that extension behind the scenes. and if they did i can just delete it again to get back to what works. thanks.

also one more thing you may be able to help with. how can i make it so i do not get other search engines that just show up in the section below the default search engines area?
