Cannot create a new folder - HELP!!!

As of this morning, I cannot create a new folder in File Explorer in Win 10. When I click on the New Folder icon in the ribbon, nothing happens. When I try to access the New... option from the menu, the second menu item simply reads (Empty), instead of Shortcut and Folder. I need this function back ASAP. Please help!

    Hello Gary,

Since you say the New context menu is empty, you could try adding the items you want back using option 1 in the tutorial below to see if that may fix it.

    Hello @Gary Townshend,
    Welcome to TenForums.

In a CMD Prompt, type the following Command and press Enter . . .

    Code:

    md "%UserProfile%\Desktop\Test_Folder"

A folder named Test_Folder should appear on your Desktop.

    I hope this helps.

    Gary,

I think posting screenshots would help people to understand your problem and would deal with the questions that have been asked.
Personally, I think the most appropriate tool will be the Snipping tool because you can set that for a 5 second delay, bring up the context menu you want people to see and then make the picture.

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,

The Test Folder did appear, but

Wow, this is strange. The Registry edits suggested by Brink have done nada.

The suggestion to create Test_Folder did do that. But using that as an example, I get a context menu that does not include Folder.

I think your test folder exercise proves that this is not a permissions issue.

Does the fault exist in Safe mode?
Does the fault exist in another user account?

Personally, I think I'd skip ahead a bit and run
    SFC - TenForumsTutorials
    then, if the fault persisted,
    Repair Install - TenForumsTutorials

    Best of luck,

    Drats!

We are making no progress. The problem is still there in Safe Mode.

This is obviously frustrating. I need this function back to be able to do a job to supplement my meager income. It was working just fine yesterday. I read on another thread that Google OneDrive might be interfering. Since I don't use that, I have uninstalled that. Thanks for all your advice so far, but let's see if we can find the actual problem, and get me back to work!

Try using a System Restore point created before 'yesterday', assuming you have one..

It's a great idea to have both restore points created on a schedule (tutorial available) and to use disk imaging regularly and routinely. That way you've 2 possible ways to fix many things yourself without assistance.

When you used the reg files from Brink's tutorial and merged them, did you get a UAC prompt as the tutorial describes?
