Windows changes icons and hyperlinks whenever it wants...

I think my PC is haunted, sometimes it just changes the icons and hyperlinks and when I refresh the desktop it all goes back to normal... For a while... Just out of itself... A really strange thing, I must say! (Mostly a green centered round with a checkmark in it instead of the white bent arrow)

Green check marks were due to OneDrive Those green check marks are sync signs which means those files and folders are backed up on the OneDrive. https://www.newtonbaba.com/remove-green-check-marks-icons-files-windows-10
If this is not it, can you please post a screenshot so we don't have to guess?

Do you mean like these? (centred)
windows 10 - What are these green checkmarks on my Desktop icons? - Super User

    - which were stated not to be Norton or OneDrive...

Consider your installed programs and cloud backup services or other forms of sychronised backups.
Which, if any, do you use?

I... don't have synched backups but thanks. The last solution on the link would help, I'll do that right away! I only have OneDrive :) Those checkmarks are the ones I've mentioned!

Ok so these are the sort of overlay icons you see:
Windows changes icons and hyperlinks whenever it wants...-1.jpg

Do you have any form of
    - backup program
    - cloud synch e.g. Dropbox

Please post screenshots of scheduled tasks listed by Autoruns (free from MS).

Have a look at this, which starts with the same symptom:
    Mysterious green checkmarks on desktop

    Quite a small number..

    Noted Onedrive of course.

The overlay doesn't fit the description of Onedrive icons, so now you need to review the other startup sections listed by Autoruns, looking for anything less common that might be responsible. You can disable anything non-MS to see if it's that and if by no other means, identify the culprit by a process of elimination.
