Some icons in windows search are broken or missing

This has been a problem for me for quite a while now but the icons on top apps and in windows search in general are broken. And if I upgrade to Windows 11 will this problem solve itself?

    Here are some screenshots:

Here are your screenshots using forum features (preferred):

An in-place upgrade repair of Win 10 should achieve the same thing in terms of a repair as upgrading to Win 11, but whether it will help is another matter.

Here's how you can find out:

Create a new user for test purposes. Log in as that user. Do you see the same problem?
If not, general Windows repairs (SFC/DISM/the above) won't help.

Thank you for responding, I tried creating a new user and it didn't have the same problem as my main one. Should the best course of action for me is to just switch over to the new user? And any advice as to how to avoid this problem again in the future? Thank you

Your original User Profile may have become corrupted, so copy your User files over to the new User Profile and use that one instead

Thanks. Whilst you can try things like
Rebuild Icon Cache in Windows 10

    or e.g. Option 2 here:
Reinstall and Re-register Apps in Windows 10

    I can offer no guarantees.

It would be worth trying as it wouldn't take long.

As far as I can see, it looks like the ones you have problems with are associated with UWP apps (apps from the Store).

As to why it's occurred... I have no suggestions.

    To protect yourself:
    a. Have a System restore point created daily on a schedule (tenforums tutorial available)
    b. Use disk imaging regularly and routinely - endlessly recommended here- e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + large enough external storage for image files.

Thank you all for your time :)) I've tried rebuilding the icon cache and re-registering apps but sadly nothing worked, and I just decided to move all my files to another user. The both of you have been a great help and much appreciated. Thank you again

Thanks- no doubt there's some precise fix somewhere... but those can be hard to find.

Sorry to ask again, but when I moved my documents to the new user suddenly all of them won't open and are denying me access

Rather depends how you did that. Assuming these were in the default libraries (Documents, Downloads, Videos etc) you will be aware of the protection that exists such that another user cannot see them when logged in.

If you have copied them in such a way as to retain their permissions, you might find this useful:

Add Take Ownership to Context Menu in Windows 10

    A method is suggested here:

but it doesn't have to be that- the intemediate folder simply needs to be one which is not associated with any particular account.

As stated, you add the Take Own right click context menu and easily Take Ownership of any folder, or you can manually Take Ownership of each folder manually
