Hey guys, My name is Bill and I have been active on both 7 forums and 8 forums
for some time now and just got my first Windows 10 laptop.
Glad to be here.

Hello, I'm almost 60, so grabbing a chance to say I'm 'new' at something... anything =)
So here I am, and I promise I didn't just end up here randomly. I want to learn from people who are intelligent about these things, what best to use do keep my two machines safe as best I can.

I was initially led here to a thread or two, that were nearly once and again, a thousand days old. That's fine. Some smart people, telling me that they depend entirely upon Defender and/or Malware Bytes etc.

I obliterated PCMatic, though my wife bought a lifetime. However, you may ad what I know of these things to a thimble and come up wanting. I have always relied on two or three specific tools: CCleaner and keeping Spybot up to date. Those and some sort of free Anti-virus. Currently, Avast. The vast number of processes being run by the afore mentioned anti-viral being the precise thing that brought me here.

What may I use, (or not use), minimally? I'm a gamer tbh. I approach the internet like it's a mud bath in waiting. I hate going there.
I no sooner open my browser, then I'm late for getting done. It's nuts. I need to know I'm safe to be out and about asking questions etc. Please help. Please help in laymen's terms as much as you can.

I think that's more than enough atm. Naturally - I'm on Win10 on both of these rigs still.
