Yes, it's unusable without its key.
There is no difference between SSD & HDD.

Same answer for both an SSD and an HDD. Bitlocker makes the data unusable if stolen, but the drive itself can be reused. Bitlocker encrypted partition(s) can be deleted using Diskpart. First select the partition then use the command delete partition override. With the encrypted partition(s) deleted the drive can then be formatted again and reused. Alternatively, in Diskpart select the disk and use the clean command to remove all partitioning information.
For an SSD there is also the option to use a PSID Revert, which resets the drive to its factory settings. You usually need the manufacturer's own software to do this, or this universal tool from Github.
