    Universal Folder Options?

    Hi,
    I'm old.
I used to load my OS into the computer with one floppy and then the software I'd be using with another only to save to a 3rd. My first video game was Asteroids in which the ship I was flying was a triangle.
    That old.
So when I look through my directory structure let's just say that I find these big tile icons irritating. (The single most inefficient way to organize a desktop folder that I can think of and it's the bloody default?!)
    Ahem.
So what I'm looking for is a quick For Old People explanation for how to tell the computer that I want EVERY SINGLE FOLDER FOR ANY DRIVE ATTACHED TO THE MACHINE to be displayed the same way. As in: Details: Columns and rows of useful information displayed in an easily accessible format.
Can anybody tell me how to do that? (Before I break something.)
    Thanks so much.
    Cheers.

Thanks for your reply, mate. I'm going to assume that there is no way to do what I want to do, which is to make every folder on the machine the same template (general documents) and the same view (details) JUST LIKE EVERY VERSION OF WINDOWS BEFORE THIS.
Apologies for the rant but I'm just disgusted with windows 10. It doesn't feel like the machine belongs to me anymore. It belongs to some asshole at microsoft who doesn't give a shit about my preferences.
I mean why do I have to deal with templates at all?
Why can't I pick a single template and a view for every folder on the machine? How the hell is this BETTER? How is it an IMPROVEMENT?
    I don't get it.
You know at this point if there was a single other viable option for an OS I'd switch in a heartbeat. I have to change the SYSTEM REGISTRY in order to prevent Microsoft from uploading my personal documents into the cloud. I have to turn off 90% of the default apps on this machine just to create the illusion that the NSA isn't listening to me.
In short... I'm looking for alternatives. The instant one comes out I will do my best to never use another microsoft product again.

If you don't like Windows- and boy, is it obvious you don't, then use Linux.

Hello whitelion1284, and welcome to Ten Forums.

About the closest you can get is to set a default view for all folders in Windows 10 using the method in the tutorial below. No guarantee for external drives though.

I can confirm that this works thru ext drives too. My music and video customized columns on backup drives match my PC's, altho I may have reproduced those manually.

'whitelion1284'-here are some screenshots of method similar to Brink's tutorial. In your case, if you want all folders to have the same details columns, it's much easier than my example. I have diff details for Pics, Video, Music. Here, I have 'Music' with custom columns. In first screen, select a folder, set the details and widths that you want, r-click blank area (Desktop is only folder exempt), select 'Customize this folder ', select option (in your case General/Documents), back in File explorer, select 'View' from ribbon then 'Options/Change folder and search options'. 3rd screen will open, select 'View/Apply to folders'=Done

WindowsFX Is a Windows user friendly distro that I have running in a VM. It looks and feels like Windows, runs EXE and MSI.

    Thanks folks.
    Much appreciated, all.
I will do my best to take it step by step and ignore the aggravation of having to be arsed in the first place.
On that note: can anyone suggest a good guide on how to familiarize myself with the intricasies of Win 10? Like I said I've been using windows since its inception but the new version has some quirks I'm not familiar with.
    Thanks again.
    Cheers and carry on.
