Sr. Citizen Level Questions Re Sleep Mode, Brightness, etc. Please

    Hi,

    Great Forums and folks.
Thanks for all the previous help.

    a. For the first time, I tried using the sleep mode.
    Worked fine, apparently.

But after a few days with it, it started asking me for a Password when I
woke it up by using the keyboard or mouse.

Why the change ? A real "pain"

    b. I tried, really, but cannot see any "simple" slider in System preferences
to simply adjust the monitor brightness.
How do I do it, please ?

    c. Might anyone suggest a very simple, uncomplicated screen Saver that can
use a file of photos I have created ?

General question if you have any thoughts on: do you feel that sleep mode, with the additional start stops for the HD, diminishes the HD life as compared to simply leaving it always on ? And the burn-in possibility for the monitor ?

    Much thanks,
    stay well,
    Bob

Hi, Win 10 does not natively provide a means of adjusting brightness for an external monitor.
You've not said whether you have a laptop, desktop, tablet or something else. I assume a desktop PC.

Please see the paragraph highlighted in blue in this tutorial ref graphics card driver and monitor controls
Adjust Screen Brightness in Windows 10

(Feel free to browse and search the huge tutorial section).

I have laptops, and use a 3rd party free utility which lets me adjust brightness by pressing a key and scrolling.
    Volumouse is one such.

    Screensaver slideshow: see tutorial
Change Screen Saver Settings in Windows 10
    - end of section 4.

This also refers to a password setting on resume.

For monitor brightness, I'd suggest 2 things to look at:

1; within the monitor controls itself, unrelated to Windows. Look at your manual.

    or

2: "Night Light", within Windows; you can set it to dim the screen at certain hours; it does use a slider. Type "night light" in your search box or within "settings".

There's probably something else within Windows, but I haven't looked for it.

Screen Saver? Are you referring to Wallpaper? Right click the screen and look at "personalize". And then "background". Choose slideshow.

You can select a folder there and choose how often you want the picture to change.
