I need to find a site that reviews ... - Please read

    **** final update

I need to find a site that reviews ... - Please read

on post # 14 is what I finally narrowed it down to..

    --Original below--

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this should be in "Performance & Maintenance" thread or here or?? maybe the mods can move my post to the correct place or tell me where to post questions like this but my question is:

    - I need a site like these that review specifically what I need and I can't find them, So I figured I'd ask the crazy tech experts and tweak madness masters if they know of it..

I need to purchase a portable external hard drive 1-4 TB size but it has to have USB - C connection and on top of that, I need it to be reviewed if possible and for reasons of - after going through a bunch of reviews off of amazon and others, I ran into "runs hot, can overheat, speed wasn't as fast as blah blah etc"

So, are there sites like these below, but specifically I can't find ones that review/compare only usb-c portable external drives etc..

(for example sites that do it correctly)

SSD UserBenchmarks - 1040 Solid State Drives Compared - but how to find only usb-c drives etc?

    or sites like :

Compare Phones - PhoneArena - but ofcourse I need to find usb-c portable drives etc.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Thanks.

Nice. Ask for a review site. Get a product listing.

Just a note, we are not all in the stated category, "So I figured I'd ask the crazy tech experts and tweak madness masters if they know of it", we are volunteers offering our time and experiences in helping others. Some are relative new on the forum and some go back aways, even are on other forums, some of us have been computing for awhile and some just getting started. Biggest difference has been the technology, back in the '90s it was subscribing to magazines and here we are now. Forums are great for getting help in fixing problems but there's no such forums for all of us who have machines working as they are supposed to.

Just so you know, I am the OP, and while I kinda agree with @margrave55, I also Very Much understand EXACTLY what @Berton says as well..

The thing is I would like to look for other things as well like I need a Portable SSD usb-c drive as well and for example I'm reading on "amazon reviews" that the Samsung t7 overheat! and when they overheat, they slow down to 300kb per second!!

So it's reasons like that I can't just buy what "amazon says at the top of their list"

but I am "Thankful" that anyone answered at all, so I do understand.

    As for
but there's no such forums for all of us who have machines working as they are supposed to.
    :

actually! You just reminded me that YES there is forums for such like Gaming tweaking forums! and they might have some ideas on the best type of hardware to get as they need their hard drives to run at top speeds and not overheat etc since they are playing multiplayer competitive games and all that high fps stuff that has high demand on the components of the computer..

I do appreciate any answer here by the way.

    Try this....

    ...or this.

...and as USB-C seems more prevalent on Macs, try this.

I do not see why usb C is that important as the remote end is standard usb connection. The usb-c is only used for charging port. Easy enough to buy conversion adapters.

I have a usb-c connection on my computer, so why not use it for the portable usb-c external hard drives?

    What do you mean?

Mike Chin and his team at SilentPCReview.com have a pretty useful components review section that includes external drives. You may find some useful information there. Les Tokar's TheSSDReview.com site is probably the best source of information on solid state storage. If you don't find what you need in the articles, there's an active online community around the site that may have answers for your questions.
Personally, I follow the BackBlaze reports on drive reliability when buying big capacity HDDs and stick to NVMe drives in external drive enclosures for most everything else. I've found little difference between USB 3.0 and 3.1 Gen 1 gear, performance-wise, but I haven't really dug into USB 3.1 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt (which is where you'll get the best performance, if your PC or laptop can accommodate same).
    HTH,
