    Windows 10 updates

I have been a loyal Windows user since the 1980s and have complained very little about updates and upgrades. However, the recent Windows 10 updates have me confused and rattled.

For some reason, the sizing of the taskbar seems to be a very low priority for the developers. I like to set it at 2 high so I can see the time, day and date. But, sporadically, no matter how I set it, it goes back to one when I close down then reopen the PCs (2 laptops and a desktop).

Now I am confronted with 2 apps I can not get rid of. "Meet Now", which I can hide from the taskbar, but not remove from the PC. And "Your Phone Companion" which I can not get rid of in any fashion.

I made the mistake on one of my laptops of connecting my phone to one of my laptops. No matter what suggestions I follow to remove the phone and uninstall the app from the phone, it will not go away. It is irritating and aggravating to be in the middle of some work and have the phone ring on my laptop.

It appears Microsoft is becoming Apple in that It wants to tell me what I should do with my property.

I can understand the frustration, but let's take a closer look at these issues one by one.

Taskbar - Your experience is certainly not what everyone encounters so there must be something specific to your installation causing this issue. Speaking personally, my taskbar stays at 2 high with no difficulties.

For starters, do you have your taskbar locked (right-click on the taskbar and select Lock the taskbar) to avoid accidental changes? Do you have any sort of software installed that modifies or interacts with the Windows shell that may be affecting the behavior?

Your Phone - Not sure about Apple phones, but on my Android phone, if I search for "Link to Windows" I get a switch that I can simply turn off to stop the linkage of the phone with Windows.

Meet Now - This is a part of Skype and here is an article that will hopefully help you to eliminate it:

How to remove Meet Now icon in Windows 10? What is it?

    I hope that this helps!

While I appreciate your response and the offer f a solution, the taskbar has been behaving this was on all three of my PCs for quite a long time. I don't think it is something specific to the installation. Yes, I have locked and unlocked the taskbar many times. I have to unlock it to increase the height.

As to the phone, I have a Galaxy S10 with the all latest updates to Android 10. I can not see the "Your Phone Companion" app icon anywhere. But, when I go to settings, I can fid the app but it will not allow me to uninstall it. I will try the search you suggest to turn off the link.

I have done extensive research on "Meet Now" and understand it is a part of Skype. However, I do not use Skype, nor do I ever intend to in the future. To me it is a waste of resources and space.

Again, thank you for taking the time to respond.

Again, on your phone it is called "Link to Windows". Did you look at the article describing how to disable Meet Now? If so, did that not work?
