How to always show taskbar thumbnail previews?

Normally taskbar thumbnail previews are shown when there's not too many windows open, as seen below:

However if there's too many windows, thumbnail previews are no longer shown:

Is there a way to always show thumbnail previews, even if I have more than ~15 windows open?

    I'm on Windows 10 Version 20H2.

    Thanks,
    dismas

    There may be a limit.

Do you have "never combine" checked in your taskbar settings ?

    Hello dismas,

This would be from the taskbar threshold limit to show a list instead of thumbnails. You can change the threshold limit using the tutorial below to increase it. Setting it to "0" (zero) will always show thumbnails.

Also, there's always WinKey+Tab when there's too many windows in the list...

I had it on "Always, hide labels". I tried "never combine" but it doesn't seem to affect the limit.

It seems increasing the threshold limit works, up to a point. It seems no matter what I set it to, it switches from showing thumbnails to a list at over 19 windows. It's still an improvement to be sure.

This is very useful. Thank you all for the help.
