    How can I stop Windows Search from searching the web?

    Hello

    How can I stop Windows Searching (on the task bar) from searching the Internet?

    Or at least stop it from doing so by default! If I want to search the Web/Internet, then I would use a browser...
    [What an idiotic default, no?]

    I don't want Cortana listening to my voice (i.e. spying on me) either.

    Thanks

    J

    @ship69 hello,

    Yes, totally agree with you and M$ should not make it so damn hard to disable:

    Turn On or Off Search online and include web results in Windows 10

    OK that registry editing thing worked - after I had rebooted.

    Next question: How can I get search to include emails by default?
    (i.e. without having to type in "email:")

    Many thanks

    EDIT: i.e. How do we get "All" to mean ALL, including email?

    I don't trust Windoze with my email, but you can try this: Make sure Windows search includes your Outlook emails | computer tip | Computer repair, personal computer instruction in Safety Harbor, Clearwater, Tampa, St Pete

    To get clear, my Windows Search IS searching my emails too, but only if I click on the word "Email". The default fails to include emails. Out of interest how else do you search through your emails?

    Fwiw, I'm still using X1 Search which is OK-ish but development seems to have slowed to a crawl.

    I access/search my email via any web browser - my email is not stored locally on my PCs.
