    BCDSTORE has wrong boot device.

So I have just re-installed Windows and I was setting up EasyBCD to boot from either my "production" partition C: or my "scratch around" partition K: I have no idea how I ended up with this result, even after I did a Macrium Reflect restore of the C: partition from before I had this problem, plus the two extra partitions that Windows creates when it does an install to a GPT drive. I also did a complete uninstall EasyBCD using Revo Uninstaller, but when I re-installed EasyBCD, I couldn't clear out this problem.

Thing is, once I get EasyBCD set up right, I want to change the drive letter from K: to NONE, but I don't dare do that until I fix this issue.

What did I do "stupid?" How do I fix this issue?

In advance, many, many thanks for a solution. Many, many thanks more.

With power on what do you see?

Open disk management > by default some columns are compressed > widen each Status and Volume > make sure the contents within the parenthesis are in full view and that none of the characters are cutoff > view disk 0 > widen this row as needed so that all of the characters are in full view > post an image into the thread

    @zbook,

Thanks for the quick reply. To keep things simple, I opened my case and took out the two HDDs.

When I power up my system, I see a typical multi-boot menu, but at this time showing "APOLLO," which is my name for my Windows production system, drive C:, and "SELENE," which is the name of my non-production Windows 10 Pro partition. APOLLO is the default, and I can also boot to APOLLO by selecting it and pressing enter:

    BCDSTORE has wrong boot device.-image.png

My system includes several drive bay USB memory card readers (Disks 1 - 5, Volumes 6 - 10) and a label printer which must have a drive letter assigned to execute the program built into the printer (Disk 6, Volume 11)
    Code:
Disk 0 is an SSD. It has 6 partition(s). Model: Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1TB

This computer has the above 1 fixed storage device(s) in total.

    Navy,

Let me try to clarify. Here is the layout of my SSD that contains both my PRODUCTION (C:) and NON-PRODUCTION (K:) partitions. Both are Win 10 Pro 64.

    BCDSTORE has wrong boot device.-image.png

Here is an EasyBCD screenshot that shows the problem.

Somehow the default boot device got switched to K: and I can't switch it back to C: using EasyBCD. I even did a restore using Macrium Reflect, but that did not fix the problem. So I need advice about a tool that can allow me to fix this issue. I hope I don't have to twiddle bits.

I use NON-PRODUCTION Windows when I want to test out software installs and configurations, or Windows or hardware configuration.

When I start to add partitions to the SSD drive, I might need to move K: to a different drive or delete it altogether and restore it only when I absolutely need it. Right now, I have no idea what would happen if I removed K: but I don't want my system to become non-bootable.

Two ways to change it. Either with the bcdedit /default command or on the boot tab of msconfig. I'm not at a computer right now to provide more detailed instructions.

The easy way to change the default OS to boot into is to press Win + R keys to open a run dialog box. Enter msconfig and click OK. Then in the system configuration window that opens, click on the boot tab. Highlight the entry you want to be the default and click "Set as default" button. Also you can set the timeout in seconds that you want. Then click OK.

    Navy,

    I appreciate this help.

I have only limited experience with the bcdedit command, because if I get something wrong, I could brick my Windows install. So to simplify things, I took out SELENE from the boot options. With msconfig, I got the following (Windows 20H2), which is different from your screenshot.

    BCDSTORE has wrong boot device.-image.png

The problem of K being the EasyBCD Boot Device still persists:

    BCDSTORE has wrong boot device.-image.png

Here is the output of bcdedit. I don't see anything obvious to change, but then again, I don't really know anything about the bcdstore.

So would it be safe to just remove the drive letter K: and see what happens?

If you want to add K: to the boot menu the command is:
    bcdboot K:\Windows /d /addlast

    SUCCESS!

    BCDSTORE has wrong boot device.-image.png

After thinking about the problem for a long time, it finally dawned on me that my issue was not with the BCDSTORE, but with the EasyBCD utility.

So I went over to the neosmart forum and posted a question there. A really helpful guy, Terry60, I think he is one of the mods there, suggested that I simply delete the K: partition. Which I did, and, shazam, I got the result I wanted, which is that C: is now the EasyBCD Boot Device.

    Solved.
