disabled Windows 10 startup file in system Configuration utility

I accidentally disabled Windows 10 startup file in system Configuration utility and now I get a spinning Circle and cannot open or get into my PC running Windows 10.
    I get an error code 0 xc 0 0 0 0 0 0 e. I can get to the screen that has Recovery Options
I clicked troubleshoot, then Advanced Options, Startup Repair, and System Restore but
None of these recovery options work I can get to Command Prompt it has my drive letter as X (& all my other Drive letters are all wrong) but I dont know what to do here.
    Please Help !!
I don't want to Reset my PC (Reinstall windows) because of all the programs I have installed on different drives over the years. My OS is on a 240 GB SSD

Please see the 3rd response here:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...4-74869ce0437c

You may be able to force your PC to boot to Safe Mode and so correct the change you made.
You will need to boot your PC from a Win 10 bootable disk. (Tutorial exists showing you how to create one- on another PC- if you don't have one already).

Boot to the Command Prompt of your boot disk (see methods to create below). Enter these BOLD commands and press ENTER after each.
    (Note the colon after C with no space; then the spaces which are important - one after T before / & T before { & } before B & Y before L)

    C:

    BCDEDIT /SET {DEFAULT} BOOTMENUPOLICY LEGACY

    EXIT

You are back to the boot screen -> Shutdown the computer.

Boot back up and "immediately" start tapping F8 (That means power button - then F8).

Hopefully that should get you into Safe Mode.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To reverse that you can use the same steps and type these (again note spaces)

    C:

    BCDEDIT /SET {DEFAULT} BOOTMENUPOLICY STANDARD
    etc (see the link).

    Otherwise:

If your Windows build (not specified - you were prompted for this when you wrote your post- so many omit that) is old- 1709 or earlier, you will have backup copies of the registry (Regback). That was disabled at the end of 1709 by MS.

If you have followed the oh, so often given advice on tenforums and elsewhere to routinely and regularly use disk imaging e.g. Macrium Reflect - free/paid- (critical for you:
I don't want to Reset my PC (Reinstall windows) because of all the programs I have installed on different drives over the years. My OS is on a 240 GB SSD
    )
you can restore your PC from a recently created disk image.

You could also try to fix boot issues with Macrium free recovery medium that you can create on another computer.

Plenty of tutorials here and online how to create a recovery medium and to boot from.

List the steps that were made.

When using Windows Recovery Environment (RE) the drive letters may change.
So you typically need to identify the drive letter when running commands in Windows RE.

Find a flash drive with free space.

Copy and paste to the flash drive:

    Code:
    diskpart
    lis dis
    lis vol
    sel dis 0
    det dis
    sel par 1
    det par
    sel par 2
    det par
    sel par 3
    det par
    sel par 4
    det par
    sel par 5
    det par
    sel par 6
    det par
    sel dis 1
    det dis
    sel par 1
    det par
    sel par 2
    det par
    sel par 3
    det par
    sel par 4
    det par
    sel par 5
    det par
    sel par 6
    det par
    sel dis 2
    det dis
    sel par 1
    det par
    sel par 2
    det par
    sel par 3
    det par
    sel par 4
    det par
    sel par 5
    det par
    sel par 6
    det par

    Code:
    bcdedit /enum all
    bcdedit | find "osdevice"
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /scanow
    bootsect /nt60

Boot to the Windows 10 iso.

Click startup repair > indicate whether it does or does not display a srttrail.txt message.

    Click command prompt > open Administrator: X:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe > X:\Sources:

    type: notepad
    type: notepad (second)
(This should open two notepad windows)

Insert the flash drive with the above commands into any usb port

On notepad click file > open files saved on the flash drive

paste the first group of commands (one at a time or all at one time)
    click enter
(alternative approach is to type each command)

When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into notepad > click file > save to the flash drive

paste the second group of commands (one at a time or all at one time)
    click enter
(alternative approach is to type each command)

When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into notepad > click file > save to the flash drive

Move the flash drive to a working computer > upload into this thread

(an alternative to the flash drive is to take pictures with a camera or smartphone camera > upload pictures into the thread)

    Please be more specific.
    a. Were you able to boot your PC from a Win 10 install disk and navigate to a Command Prompt?
    b. Were you then able to access your Windows partition successfully, and confirm which drive letter that was? (May not be C: as seen from that command prompt).
    c. What happened when you issued the command
    BCDEDIT /SET {DEFAULT} BOOTMENUPOLICY LEGACY
    ?

If all the above was done correctly, what happened when you rebooted?

Can you see 'it didn't work' is just a wee bit vague, and offers no way forward for someone to help you? Uh... lots of typing!
