Welcome to Ten Forums Tom, glad to have you aboard. As per forum requests, I'm introducing myself.
My name is Tom, I am a software specialist/programmer/software developer/systems analyst (nobody could ever make up their mind) with a fair amount expertise in complex systems in defence, gaming, telecoms/networking, public safety, and mobile communications. My first computer was an Apple II at school, a Commodore 64 at home, and I've had or used just about every Windows release (except Win CE). Written lots of C/C++, Java, VB back when, shell scripts on various platforms, Perl... even built some custom SNMP stuff. Taught Internet programming course (Sockets, Client Server stuff, RFCs galore, etc). Worked on Ubuntu, Red Hat, Solaris, QNX, OS/2, Windows, and I'm likely forgetting something. Been close the hardware at times, software most of the time (from the UI to the low levels with assembler on some rare occasions).
What I am not is an IT specialist. And I respect that the skills of system builds, cloning systems, backups, and deeper knowledge of windows internals that it takes to safely modify, secure, and deal with things most of us users of computers don't touch every day. Especially at the periodic points where one migrates to a new machine with new OS, new hardware (and changed as time has advanced) and one wants to customize hardware, configuration and be sure the important stuff still works.
I've read a fair few posts from here while searching for ways to tweak or fix things in Windows 10 and I'm very happy this community exists. Thanks already owed!
Tom
