    Booting off USB/DVD fails (UEFI)

    Hi there you all,

My pc fails to boot from a USB and / or DVD. It uses UEFI. I have tried many solutions that include:

    (1) I have changed the BIOS to either USB HDD or USB CDRom for the different cases. (I have been able to boot from DVD in the past. All I did was try to boot off DVD a few times then).

    (2) Secure Boot. There is no option to change this. It is permanently set to "Standard". (BIOS minimal - no CMS nor Legacy).

    (3) Boot Manager. This can be enabled that brings back the f12 key. However, only the pc hard disc is listed here.

    (4) Tried a few times to boot different ways for both cases. For example use F2 to set boot priority in BIOS, boot from restart and shutdown. (Removed battery for longer than 30 seconds)

    (5) Checked partitions. There are 6 and the ESP partition is fat32.

    (6) Performed some basic troubleshooting that includes: DISM, SFC and CHKDSK, Start-Up Repair, windows OS trouble shooter.

Got any other ideas out there.

    Thanks.

Hi, how did you create the disk? If it's a Win 10 install disk for 2004, see
Create Bootable USB Flash Drive to Install Windows 10

A search such as this will help you work out how to do that for a Samsung laptop:
    Booting off USB/DVD fails (UEFI)-1.png

    There are two basic options:

    a. Set boot priority in 'BIOS' so the PC looks for your bootable device BEFORE the internal disk
    b. Pressing a particular key (varies with manufacturer) just after powering up to trigger a boot menu, from which you select your bootable device.
Here's a list of such keys:
Boot Menu Option Keys for all Laptops & Desktops - System BIOS Keys

Bearing in mind that booting from an external disk is independent of the internal disk, checks you have run on the latter are not relevant.

What is the source of your bootable disk? Various programs create these.

    Hi Dalchina,

Thanks for getting back to me.

The USB was created by Microsoft's MediaCreationTool. (I have done this many times just in case too). As was the DVD which I have had for a while, and other pc's boot off this.

I will try your suggestions. But yes either USB or DVD was at the top of the list for the BIOS of course.

    :)

    Hi Dalchina,

Also see (3) for selecting bootable media in the first post.

For Samsungs that article suggests ESC, F2 or F12 depending on the range to prompt the boot menu.

See this - and comments following may help..

    Hi Dalchina,

Also as mentioned in the first post I have already used F2 and F12.

I used the esc key too.

Suggest you post in a Samsung forum.

Thus appears to be an old device from around 2011-13- is that correct? Yet you say it uses UEFI...

    Hi Dalchina,

The pc is not a Sumsung.

Nor is the date correct. It was purchased later than that, some 5 years or so. Yes it uses UEFI.

Any ideas on this forum ?

    I have tried most already.

You want to install Windows but you can’t use a DVD or an USB for whatever reason?

This tutorial will show you a method that will allow you to boot and install Windows directly from the hard disk drive (HDD).

    Just a moment...

    Well, your specs say this:

Are you deliberately trying to confuse? I'm out.
