    Thumb Drive Data Retrieval

Does anyone know of a free way to retrieve data from a malfunctioning SD card? Most allow a free scan but not data retrieval.
    Thanks.

Have you tried the Linux Live CD option?
You can boot the media and retrieve data without actually being in the OS etc.

    Linux Mint

    I hope this helps!

We could really do with some extra information . . .

[1] Are you getting any error messages, and if so, what are they?
[2] Did anything change that could have caused this?
[3] What do you mean by malfunctioning?
[4] Does the SD card show up in Explorer or Disk Management?

    . . . etc.

    I hope this helps!

Is the data from a camera like pictures? Is it an SD or an SDHC card? SD has a limit of 2GB and SDHC is larger but a card reader that supports SDHC can also use the SD, not the other way around. As to formatting only do it in a camera as reformatting in Windows may keep it from use in the camera.

Are you looking for partition recovery software?

I'm getting a message to format the card. Don't want to do that obviously. The retrieval software is able to find the video and photos. I just don't want to pay for that if I don't have to.

Prior the card and card reader were working fine. Just suddenly stopped working asking to format.

    Thanks.
