Notification/System tray programs showing wrongs icons

    Hello,

I have a bit of an odd problem, which is purely cosmetic, yet very frustrating.
My system tray apps (notification area, the right part of the taskbar) are almost always showing the icons of other installed apps (Even some that aren't currently running). In addition, sometimes the clock is mirrored, for example, 23:49 will show as 49:23, etc... This issue occurs with every user. Clicking the app will open the correct app, even though the icon is wrong.
The only "odd" thing in this particular setup that I can think of, is that Windows was originally installed in English, and each user later changed the UI language to Hebrew. Windows version is Windows 10, 1909.

Attached photo demonstrates the issue well (Many programs show the "Windows Security icon. The one with the floating Hebrew text is actually the safely eject program...):

I'll appreciate any idea or advice you have.
It's not a life threatening problem, but a very annoying one nevertheless.

    Thanks a lot,
    Noam.

Hi. Try this: Open the Registry Editor (RegEdit). Click on Edit then type traynotify then enter. Keep clicking on the F3 function key until you see on the right hand side the following 2 entries: IconStreams and PastIconStream. Delete both of these items then close the Registry Editor. Now open the Task Manager and find Windows Explorer, highlight it then click End task (bottom right). This will reset the icons to the correct image. Then you can choose which ones you want shown and which ones you want hidden in Taskbar Settings - Select which icons appear on the taskbar. If you don't feel comfortable editing the Registry you can use a third party tool called CCleaner and in the Advanced settings put a check mark in Tray Notifications Cache and run the cleaner to do the registry hack, remove the check mark and then you just have to reset Windows Explorer afterwards. Note that if you never used CCleaner make sure you only check the items you want cleaned. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip. Sadly, it didn't work.
The problem still persists. Safely eject will show the windows security icon and network will still show Plex icon, and so on...

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. It has always worked for me. I'm assuming that you did it correctly. If so then you have a totally different issue. Good luck!

I'm not great with languages but what I see is right to left of the Notification Area. Mine is left to right:

Some adjustments can be made to what is shown is accomplished by clicking the small up arrow to get the full list. Also right-clicking the Taskbar and choosing Taskbar settings then going to the Notification area can lead to enabling or disabling features on the bar.

Can't say about the clock but that suggests the whole screen may have been rotated or flipped.

You could Rebuild The Icon Cache and see if that fixes the issue.

I was also thinking that Restoring Default File Type Associations might work as well.
