Start Menu Stays Open When App is Run as Administrator

I noticed this in version 1909 and it continued into 2004. When I right-click on an app in Start (command prompt, for example) to run it as administrator, the app comes up but the Start Menu does not close. When I run the same app by left-clicking on it, the Start Menu immediately closes as soon as the app comes up on the screen.

I've run the appropriate SFC and DISM commands and they don't find any errors. Any suggestions as to how I can fix this without a Windows refresh/reinstall?

Hi, if you create a new user for test purposes and log in as that user, does the same thing happen?
I don't recall seeing a similar report, although there may have been one.

    Possible workaround:

I found that a lot quicker than trying to navigate through Win 10's start menu.
(And using Open Shell is easier than that too).

FWIW this doesn't happen on my 1903.

Neither does this on my 1903.

Use an elevated shortcut to run it as an administrator as per the following tutorial:
How to Add Create Elevated Shortcut to New Context Menu in Windows 10

    That is a good fish.

I only noticed the issue beginning with 1909 and continuing on to 2004. So, I'm not surprised you haven't experienced the problem with 1903 - I didn't, either.

My four machines that have been upgraded to 2004 are on four quite different versions: Home x86, Home x64, Pro x86 & Pro x64. On all four machines Start closed before the UAC prompt appeared, let alone the Command Prompt window. As squibbon didn't mention the UAC prompt I tried with UAC turned off, Start still closed before the window opened.

    Interesting...

I'm seeing it on both my platforms with clean installs of 2004.

Now, I don't see it if I RIGHT click Start Menu and choose Command Prompt (Admin)

Very interesting. I have two VMs with clean installs of 2004, one Pro the other Home. I don't see it there either.

It may be video driver related. Your specs say you use Nvidia, none of my machines do (nor the VM, they're using a Hyper-V video driver).

@squibbon, what video card do you have?

Both you and @Farvatten have Nvidia. It would be interesting to see if @thomaseg1 can reproduce the symptoms you describe in post #1 as he has also reported problems with Nvidia and 2004.

If so, then this problem seems specific to your Nvidia video. I can't reproduce it on my non-Nvidia system so I'm not going to be able to help much, I'm afraid..
