    Version 2004 fixes?

this is my first time posting so guess will start with a question:) I downloaded v2004 had some issues, minor things like it would not allow access to certain files or would not let my remove files, No permission to do that... I contacted Microsoft and the tech said if you have a way to go back to the previous version do it! I went back to version 1809. I was wondering if anyone knows if all the problems have been fixed with 2004? Ii would like to install but not if there are stills unresolved issues with it.
thank for any help you give

Version 2004 still has an issue with remembering the last time an SSD was optimized and probably more minor issues. Welcome to The Forum.

Please feel free to visit the News section where there are articles per new build and per update per build.

E.g. see this for known issues:
Known and Resolved issues for Windows 10 May 2020 Update version 2004

If you chose to manually download and upgrade to 2004 without MS having offered it by Windows Update (assuming WU was working) you may have compatibility issues. MS tries to protect users by not offering upgrades which might be incompatible with your device.

Build 1903 is the last 'best' stable build from my perspective- 1909 with updates applied is ok, but file explorer search has been changed.

Build 2004 adds little new- you can read about it in another article in the News section.

Always advisable to wait, whilst feature updates work out fine for some, some are infamous for the problems they created.

Suggest waiting until at least after the first major update AFTER a feature update. And check the news - here and generally.

Also make sure you create a current disk image before upgrading. (e.g. Macrium Reflect - free/paid).

    Welcome to Ten Forums allen6

Your 1809 is almost at its end of support on November 10, 2020. In fact support should have ended on May 12, 2020 but it was extended by 6 months in light of covid-19.

To remain secure you should update soon. However, as 2004 is the current release then that is what you are likely to see offered by Windows Update. Like all new versions, 2004 has some bugs on initial release that are yet to be resolved. Anyway, it differs little from 1909 so there's no compelling reason to go for it yet.

Your choice is between 1903 (end of support December 8, 2020) or 1909 (end of support May 11, 2021). Both are stable, but as dalchina points out 1909 introduced some changes, notably for Search in Explorer. Your 'file access' issues may not actually be bugs, they may be due to controlled folder access being enabled. If so, that can be turned off or exceptions made. You may see the same issues if you upgrade to 1903/1909.

You can perform an in-place upgrade to 1903 or 1909 if you have the appropriate ISO for that version. Microsoft don't directly offer links to get the earlier versions, but you can get an older ISO direct from Microsoft using Option Five or (the one I use) Option Six here:

    Download Windows 10 ISO File

A little off topic, has the Explorer Search been 'fixed' in 2004?
