Cannot Delete Folders/Files from Dowloads Folder

I have fourteen folders in my Downloads folder that will not delete. Neither will the files inside of them. I keep getting a popup that says I need permission. I grant permission and it comes back with "Try Again", and keeps doing so, ad nauseum. I can delete any other file or folder from the Downloads folder, or any place else on my drives. Just not these folders.

    Of note:

    1. I am the administrator of this PC
    2. I am logged on as administrator
    3. I have tried taking ownership of the folders

These are simply installer files for some audio software. I have no idea why they won't delete. Any help is much appreciated.

    Thank you

Methods for difficult to delete files:
    a. Boot to a command prompt
    b. Boot from a live boot disk
    c. Use Emco Unlockit (free) - deletes both files and folders on boot

If after deleting them they return, consider whether they are synced with something- Onedrive, Google Sync etc etc...

    Hi Gurn!

Have you perhaps tried deleting the files in safe mode?

Also, perhaps give this a try, usually works for me when I have trouble deleting files: IObit Unlocker, Solution for "undelete files or folders" Problems on Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP, 10 - IObit

Do you have a Downloads folder in your One Drive? These may be synced together.

I wouldn't recommend IObit for anything! See if renaming those folders and then try deleting will work.

    I would recommend Take Ownership

Add Take Ownership to Context Menu in Windows 10

I tried renaming them and they say that the files are in use by another process. I have no idea what, but being that these are installation files and there is a license required to use them, I suspect that the license manager is keeping the files open somehow.

I'm going to check with process explorer and see if I can kill the process and be able to delete the files.

I don't have the folder synced with anything like Onedrive or anything. I happen to hate the cloud. :)

Use an Unlocker program like Lockhunter or the afore mentioned IOBit Unlocker to see what is locking the file.

    This might work for you.
    Left click on a file
    Right click on that file
    Left click on Properties
    Left click on Details tab
At the bottom of the window,Left click on "Remove properties and personal information"
In the new window,Left click on the second radio button "Remove the following properties from this file"
In the same window,Left click Select All
In the same window,Left click O.K.
In the Details Tab window,Left click O.K.
That file should now be deleted---hopefully---.It isn't as time consuming as it appears
