The free edition has some history of causing problems on 10
If that does not solve it then we can look at other aspects of it.
If the CMOS battery was to blame, not that it is likely, then the time and date would be wrong, if the computer was shut down and the power removed from the tower
I would also go for Kapersky.
Some AVs are usually overreacting and keeps interrupting just to make you notice that they are working (in a good or bad way) and it's very annoying.
Windows Defender should be enough protection.
I just bought I new laptop and the very first thing I did is to uninstall the free 1 year McAfee subscription and let Windows Defender take care of everything.
Freezing during BIOS is probably a cmos battery issue or PSU.
The factory info on the gt430 and DirectX 12 is interesting and suggests it's suitability for 12 is marginal.
Any problems during BIOS and before WIN 10 loads eliminates it,WIN 10,or apps as a factor.
If you can,then first I would reset the BIOS to default and then replace the battery.It is old and they aren't expensive.
Before going out for the day I've now uninstalled Kaspersky and Defender is now doing its stuff.
We'll see how it goes.
Just another thought - sorry about the serial rather than parallel nature of these. When I close down my PC I switch off the mains supply at the socket, so first thing in the morning, which is when I'm seeing the freezes, the PC has had no power whatsoever overnight. Could there be a connection?
Will doing this make any difference, perhaps to the impact on the CMOS battery?
Just a thought.
Crossing fingers, toes and anything else that comes to mind, I've had no freezes for several days - famous last words.

Although in fairness Kaspersky, they are not alone, many of the third party AV programs, work OK at first and then produce problems on 10.
Sadly I continue to have the same intermittent problem.
After a spate of further freezes, always soon after morning boot up, last Friday I changed the CMOS battery (needed to remove and replace the graphics card to access the battery). The BIOS reload the last parameter set after the change.
For a few days no problems.
Then yesterday a couple of freezes. After 2 or 3 reboots it was fine for the rest of the day.
This morning:
Boot up - freeze after 10-15 minutes.
Reboot - freeze during BIOS after detecting memory before the list of detected drives.
Reboot - freeze after "loading operating system" message
Reboot - still OK after a couple of hours.
Past experience suggests it will be OK for the rest of the day.
I've run memtest86, OK; Speccy, Crystal Disk Info & Hard Disk Sentinel all report drives OK.
Any thoughts?
The freeze after detecting memory points to it as suspect.
If you can,then remove the memory sticks and replace with a different brand.
Just make sure they are all seated securely and the contacts are clean.

They're Corsair Vengeance (life time guarantee) 2 x 2 pairs of 2GB. I don't have any spare memory but I'll take them out and reseat, perhaps even swap the pairs over.

I've now swapped the pairs of memory DIMMs over and double checked they're seated firmly and the latches are secure.
Wondering whether it could be a warmth/heat thing. When the PC has been running a little while the internals will have got warm, certainly warmer than they would have been overnight, and perhaps a connection that might be a bit iffy when cold, is fine when warmed.
Anyway see what happens now.
