Computer sometimes freezes completely. Audio starts to repeat

I had an issue pop up a few days ago and its happened three times within the past day.
It happened once without the lock screen while i was watching a twitch stream and playing a video game.
The other two times I locked my screen and left for a few minutes when I cam back the mouse was frozen and 0 responses from keyboard and mouse. Nothing worked until i hard reset using the pc switch. Not sure what is causing this its driving me crazy.

Hi! That fact that they freeze up after a few minutes indicate that this may be a Hardware Issue.

    - Is your computer getting sufficient cooling (not overheating) ?
    - It could be an Outdated BIOS problem.
    - If your CPU/GPU is overclocked/overvolted/undervolted i suggest you bring them back to stock values.
    - Try running memtest, and see if there are failures in any of your memory sticks.
    - Maybe a bad HDD / SSD ?

Most motherboards come with surge detection, have you had your computer suddenly restart with Power Surge warnings? That could indicate a bad PSU, which could damage components like the GPU.

Please do fill out your PC Specs in detail.

    Welcome to the Forum.

    Start with the basic.
Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
    chkdsk c: /f
It will say your disk is in use and if you want to schedule to next start = Yes
    Restart

Back to Windows, open a CMD window as administrator and type:
    sfc /scannow

    Hello @whatsadebugger,

    Welcome to TenForums!

Please download the batch script below and run Option [2] and Option [3]. Then upload the CBS_ERRORS.txt file.

    sfc [ System File Checker ] . . .

    Download => Attachment 276645.
Upload => How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums.

SFC is a Windows utility program for detecting and repairing any corruptions in the protected system files of the OS. If any files are missing or corrupted, they are replaced from the cached copy which is located in the compressed folder %WinDir%\System32\dllcache.

    Option [2] Run SFC.
Once SFC has finished running, the scan results are shown in the cmd prompt window. SFC also creates a CBS.log in the temporary folder C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\. This log contains ALL the information generated from running SFC.

Option [3] Copy the extracted ERRORS ONLY from the CBS.log.
The batch script extracts the ERRORS ONLY [ as we are only really interested in the ERRORS ] from the CBS.log and creates a CBS_ERRORS.txt file on the desktop ready to upload to the forum for us to look at!

    Option [4] Copy the CBS.log.
The batch script copies the FULL CBS.log and creates a CBS_Log.txt file on the desktop ready to upload to the forum for us to look at!

Option [5] Creates a compressed desktop folder and copies the files from Option [3] & Option [4] to it.
The batch script creates a compressed SFC_Up desktop folder which automatically includes the CBS_Log.txt & CBS_ERRORS.txt files ready to upload to the forum for us to look at!

NOTE: If any ERRORS are reported, then run SFC again two or three more times, re-booting in between. For some reason, this can make a difference. I think it has to do with the settings.ini file sometimes showing false positives! If you still get a message saying "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them", then either upload the files or the folder for us to look at!

    I hope this helps!

    Hello @whatsadebugger,

Once you have run chkdsk C: /f, please download the batch script and run Option 2 and then upload the file.

chkdsk [Check Disk] - Extract The WININIT Run Data Log . . .

    Download => Attachment 276661.
Upload => How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums.

This extracts the current status [ output data ] for either chkdsk C: /F or chkdsk C: /R. Either of these MUST be run FIRST in order to have the current run data available. The file created will ONLY include the LATEST run.

The batch script creates a WinInit_Log.txt file on the desktop ready to upload to the forum for us to look at!

    I hope this helps!
