Yokiaza, Sorry but im unable to attend to what you ask tonight and i have a very limited amount of time available over the next couple of days.
As it is New years eve tomorrow. I have guests arriving who may stop over. Hence it may be a few days before i have any appreciable time. I suspect that for you it may take just a few minutes, I'm afraid that will not be so in my case. I'll get back to it as soon as i can.

I can answer your q about the docs folder though. The folder i hoped to find would contain hundreds of files. If i understand you correctly the one you refer to has just 1 folder and 1 file at 418 bytes. I have done so many things over the past week or so which i had never touched on prior. I have difficulty in remembering quite what has or has not taken place so far as the PC is concerned. The best answer i can offer, is i do not believe i created the folder and i would not have populated it with that file and shortcut alone if i had. So unless i had copied and pasted a lot of files etc and for some strange reason the only ones which pasted over were those two. Then i had little or nothing to do with creating the folder. Happy New Year, Cheers

winsuff19, if you have a little time left. In treesize, expand first three folders to show what's in them. Especially that all from drive E folder.

Your documents folder (if it is still there) should be there - just follow the largest folders

Hi Guys. To all those who tried to help me out, I'm sorry i have not been back to you I have had too much to EAT, It must have been that it couldn't have been the beer..could it? Anyway I've got my Mrs to write this for me as I'm in recovery mode.
I have tried everything suggested by you guys over the past few days and whilst i thought i had some success it turned out all i had was a list of folders i could not access. I have developed a head ache which comes on as soon as i start thinking about what to do next. I recon i've reached MY level of incompetence. As it is Pantomime season i've called Aladdin (a lad In) in the hope he knows how to open doors and perhaps how to retrieve my lost data (shoe) before everything turns into a Pumpkin. With a little luck he will not turn out to be one of the forty thieves.
Thanks again for your efforts. I'll report back Good or Bad with as much info as i can, once i have a final score.

Did you by any chance played with drive encryption? Turned on Bitlocker or anything?

Yokiaza. Its been a big disappointment, So far, and i can but hope "Aladdin" sorts it or me. If he does not i will suffer the consequences for years, in lost data which i had stored and that's paying no attention to the years of family pictures. I have nobody to blame but myself and it its been a lesson.
I can honestly say i did not for one moment think i stood ANY chance of loosing what i have. Caution and pragmatism, that's me all over, only not Christmas 2019 it seems. It'll be one to remember, what ever happens. When the "lad" arrives, I'll be back with a result. Good luck for the New Year

winsuff19, one (or couple of) thing, before you do anything with that disk.

Get Macrium (free backup program), and make an Image of the drive (that has that large data folder) on an external disk. Could be 300 - 500 GB.

This can be restored later to the same state as is now.

After that, connect drives, as they were before you moved them, and (try to) make System restore to a date before this mess happened.

Is it possible the folder is hidden? you could try this.
    1. Open File Explorer from the taskbar.
    2. Select View > Options > Change folder and search options.
    3. Select the View tab and, in Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives and OK.
