    Solid State Plus BigBoi

Hello. I've purchased a dual disk HP that boots solid state and also has the spinner D:

Trying to insure all the new stuff goes to D: rather than solid state unless I want it there.

What's the best way to try to put USERS and its folders on D: Thanks.

Hi Noobie, welcome to Ten Forums.

I used a method similar to the following link, I thought it was more applicable to a PC with an OEM version of Windows already installed. I believe Kari's method (link posted above) may be more suited to a new installation of Windows unless NavyLCDR can suggest otherwise.

How to move Windows 10 default user folders to another drive | Windows Central

I chose to maintain a similar path as the default for some folders. i.e.

    D:\Users\username\Desktop
    D:\Users\username\Favorites

    Other folders I regularly access with explorer were moved to;

    D:\Documents
    D:\Downloads
    D:\Videos

    Cheers

I normally just move my libraries (those folders under C:\Users\myusername) using the location tab under folder properties.

The tutorial shows how to completely move Users folder in clean installation (Method One), and how to do it in existing Windows installation (Method Two).

I have added this warning at the beginning of Method Two:

    warning   Warning
Do not proceed before creating a system image!

Sysprepping an existing installation with an OEM pre-installed Windows is risky. Manufacturers might have their own unattended answer files in place which ignore your custom unattended files. Anything can go wrong when sysprepping an existing installation, I do not recommend doing this.

If you decide to try it and it fails and you post about it, I will remind you about this warning asking you to restore the system image you made before proceeding.

Short: Relocating Users folder with Sysprep should only be done on new, clean installs! Trying this Method Two, relocating Users on an existing installation might force you to do a complete reinstall or restore your PC to factory state.

Thanks for the assist. I was able to move myusername folder under Users to D: but I couldn't replicate Users or any other folders of the type over. So, I know this is basic to power users but how to I assure that all my documents, downloads, etc. on D: are used instead of those under Users on C:? Thanks again.

BTW, I hadn't seen Kari's fourth item in the thread when I did the Home copy and I doubt I'll worry about sysprep or what happen to Users as long as D: is the spot where all new items are created or updated. We do have the system set to populate D: on new items, and I'll keep an eye on what's happening in the future. Nothing's every easy!
