Im downloading windows 10 1909 iso and using the media creation tool and i noticed the iso file is smaller (under 4gb) . but the direct iso download link is a little over 5gb.
Is there something wrong with my computer?

Are you running secure boot?
A gpt Windows ISO will be slightly bigger than a standard mbr ISO setup. Another thing to consider is the pre installed language packs that might come with the standard Microsoft Uefi ISO

The ISO created by the MCT contains an install.esd file, while the direct download ISO contains an install.wim instead. The Electronic Software Distribution (ESD) format is more compact, that's all.
MS use an install.esd for their MCT's ISO so that install.esd will be smaller than the 4GB Fat32 file size limit . This mean you can mount the ISO and copy its contents to any normal usb. Mark the usb's partition as Active and you have made a bootable usb that can boot in both Legacy and UEFI mode. That's Option Four in this tutorial.

The install.wim may be larger than 4GB and is not guaranteed to be suitable to put on a Fat32 usb.
It's just cause your device sets 1024mb as 1Gb and the download source take the colloquial 1000mb as 1gb.
