    Move to 1909 without 1903?

I run 1809 ... and trembled over the push to the oft-fatal 1903.
But windows update said that my computer was not ready for 1903. Why? Dunno. But I was happy.

Months passed and now windows update tells me that it wants to shove 1909 upon me.

    1. Does anyone yet have 1909? What problems have you encountered?
    2. Has anyone out there been pushed into 1909 without first getting 1903?

It was available to the general public last Tuesday, along with the Patch Tuesday regular updates.

How to get the Windows 10 November 2019 Update version 1909

What is new in Windows 10 version 1909

I'm not certain without a lot of digging, but if you already have 1903, and it was up to date, the CU that triggers 1909 is small and painless. But, if you are pre-1903, the 1909 will be a full new build update. Has to get 1903 installed in order to get the trigger CU for 1909.

To date I have 11 machines of various ages and hardware specs. I updated all to 1909. All but one have been perfect.

The issue with the one was after reboot, I noticed a slight slowness to everything, from the mouse, to opening apps was a bit slower. The Nvidia presets were gone as well. I tried to open Nvidia Control Panel and it would not open.

I downloaded the newest driver from Nvidia and chose clean installation box while installing. It installed perfectly and now everything is back to normal.

It also reverted my choice of no to yes in the Device Installation Settings regarding Windows installing my drivers. I feel it's better to get drivers from the manufacturer of said hardware than Windows.

None really. 1909 is actually the same base code as 1903 which by now is quite stable. I've been running 1903 on all my machines since it was released, and have now updated them all to 1909 without issue.

My second question still puzzles me:
    2. Has anyone out there been pushed into 1909 without first getting 1903?

    I have 1809, not 1903.
But the Windows Update panel says nothing about 1903. It only says come 'n' get 1909.

Because it's pre-1903, as I said. 1909 is essentially 1903 on steroids. Under the covers, it would do a build update (full) to 1903, then the CU to up it to 1909. Get you from 1809>1903 (18362.476, eventually), then the CU to get you from 18362.476 to 18363.476. Then all would be 1909.

The only really "visible" change you may see, or perceive, is a change MS made to the way it allocates work to multi-core/multi-thread CPUs. Spreads it out better and smoother, so 1 or 2 aren't spiked at times, and the other threads appear to be lazy.

From this thread/MS announcement, which has all the changes.

"A CPU may have multiple “favored” cores (logical processors of the highest available scheduling class). To provide better performance and reliability, we have implemented a rotation policy that distributes work more fairly among these favored cores."
