How to bring back items in Device Manager Win 10 ?

How to bring back items in Device Manager Win 10 ?
    ==========================================

Thanks for replies to my postings.

    1)
I find my built-in DVD/CD drive was not responding . I did not see this drive in window explorer within drives node.

It showed in device manager, it disappeared after I disabled it.

I tried many suggestions showed up by google search. NO LUCK. I am not able to get my DVD/CD drive entry in device manager or explorer .

How do I bring my DVD/CD drive entry back , to make my built-in DVD/CD drive respond?

    2) I have an external disk drive. It was used in mac earlier.

When I connect this drive via USB. It shows up in computer Management==> Device Manager

as separate partition/separate disk. When I right click, all items were grayed out. It is not allowing to format or build partition.

How do I make this external disk work in my Win 10 ?

    Thanks for your guidance.

It should be Plug n play. If this is a USB 3 device, try another cable. My Blu-Ray requires the two port USB 3.0cable on some devices to make it work. I originally got it for my Macbook Air early 2015. I hardly use it these days. Sits mostly in the cabinet.

    As it should.

There usually is not much information available until a disc is inserted, that's where the formatting would/should show. Usually only the RW discs need formatting, recording onto an R disc appears to do necessary formatting "on the fly".

The external drive that worked on your Mac should work on Windows or Linux, mine do. But some external drives or drive case require a Y-cable, one leg for data and power and the other leg for more power, take 2 USB ports and most times will work with Self-powered USB hubs. I have 3 external ODD/Optical Disk Drives, an HP, a Lite-On and an LG.

    1) There should be a category DVD/CD-ROM drives in the Device Manager.
There maybe an optical disc drive service running which you can find in the Task Manager. If that is not running you can restart it.
Even with no disc in the drive it should appear in the File Explorer in This PC.
In mine there is the standard cdrom.sys Win driver and another *.sys driver from the system manufacturer.

I use CD-RW and DVD+RW all the time, putting in a blank disc is detected. No need for any formatting.
Indeed I never format those and write them the same as the Write once discs.

Many years ago when using packet writing they needed to be formatted but that proved to be unreliable, sometimes incompatible, so was abandoned though it still appears in the built in DVD/CD burning methods in Windows 10.

Try scan for legacy devices else you have a problem with cable or DVD drive

Your DVD/CD drive wasn't responding and If it doesn't show in Device manager, it probably has a hardware failure.

With the snipping tool take a snapshot of Disk manager hole window (expand the columns so we can read them) and save it to your disk.
Post it here as an attach
ment. On the Quick Reply window Go Advanced, hit the paper clip on top menu, browse to the stored snipping tool - upload Thanks for your guidance.

Please post those to a pos here not in a cloud share document. When people search for issues, they do expect to have examples of what may be the cause and solution to the problem.
