New Unwanted system icon in Notification Bar

Yesterday a new icon appeared in my notification area. It's a little window with a red exclamation point in it. Hovering reveals: "Your device is missing important updates. Select this icon for more information." Clicking (or right-clicking) offers two options: 1) Check for updates or 2) Open Windows Updates. I don't want either.

Is there a way to make this disappear?

I have blocked updates with Stop Updates vers 2.0.34
    Windows version 1809 (17763.194)

Hi, I've no idea about that- you'd have to contact their forum or support if available.

You could read about this (including comments following) and try it:

    It's a Windows message

Sorry I was not clear. It appears that this is a MS Windows generated message. The Stopupdates has been in place for months.

The question is whether using that 3rd party tool inevitably gives rise to that. Hopefully you can research that.

I know there are various progs around that try to block Windows updates. My suggestion is to try one that is documented on this forum.

The effects of 3rd party tools may be unpredictable, of course.

Having searched for your notification I found this:
Disable the notification icon from the system tray

See the 5th post.. maybe it will help.
However I have no idea whether that is specific or will have side effects.

    The solution is...
If you don't want to install available updates or don't want to restart your machine as suggested on Windows Update page but still want to get rid of the status icon, you can hide the Windows Update status icon. To hide it open Taskbar Settings page and click on "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" link and set the toggle given for "Windows Update Status" to OFF. It'll immediately hide the Windows Update status icon on Taskbar.

    It works.
