I'm not sure what you mean. Did you mean left click or is your mouse set to left hand?

Hi, do you mean you wish to create a new folder, and right clicking empty space, and clicking New, causes file explorer to hang?

You can try repair 30 in this free, cautious repair tool which guides you through the preparatory steps:

Note it is intended, as it says, to be run in Safe Mode.

Another option could be to use this:

I'm not sure if they want to open the box that has the option to create a new folder or if they want to open a folder.

    Agreed it's unclear, but
I can open a new folder from the top right of folder screen.
seems to be a good clue.

Note: there was a bug with 1803 I think a while back where there was a delay related to this option.

@trumble What is your Windows build? Windows key + r, winver

I can truly say that 1803 gave me a few more headaches than worth. The latest was Saturday when I was trying to setup a new laptop. IMHO anyone running 1803 and not offered the latest build should download the latest ISO from MS and do a in place update.

dalchina was right. I want to create a new folder to put files in so I right click and the menu comes up with new included but not the submenu and if i click on new the screen locks. I can create a new folder from the top left of screen. my build is 1809 thanks

The confusion was when you said open instead of create. Have you tried restarting your computer?

Apparently what you are referring to could be one of those "famous" bugs of the October 2018 Update, read these comments to see if you find any relationship with the problem that you have:

What is your exact build- is it up to date? Windows key + r, winver.

If you are up to date, I think that bug has been solved, hasn't it?
