Cannot hide app list in Start Menu Windows Home

My laptop is very new but when I started tinkering around, I found out that I cannot hide app list in start menu. The settings is there, but when I switch off the button and exit settings or go to another screen, the switch turns back to on. Anything I switch in the start menu does not work. So as when I turn on the night light in settings, it reverts back to off when I exit settings. Help. I don't know what to do.

The suggestion is in post #2, by a member- I'm not suggesting a clean install.

Sorry, should have been explicit- the member made the suggestion, the user decided to do a clean install, which was not the suggestion.

So specifically: is your start screen in full screen mode?

For info only: All Win 10 iso's are freely downloadable and you can clean install or do an upgrade repair iinstall as many times as you like.

No, my start screen is not in full screen mode. Even if I turn on the full screen mode, if I switch to another setting, it reverts back to off.

What is your Windows build? Windows key + R, winver

Given MS's record with 1803 and 1809, there's a possibility it's a bug. See if someone with your build has the same problem. (As you can see, I've stayed with 1709).

Otherwise there's a tutorial for re-registering the start menu

    and possibly

    - you can compare what happens if you create a new user for test purposes and log in as that user.

Hello @Nelle, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If you haven't already, you might see if you may be able to use Option 2 in the tutorial below to remove the All Apps list from your Start menu.

It uses a group policy setting to do it instead of from Settings.
