The clean install option should work unless there is a hardware problem.

Run the HP UEFI diagnostics (use a flash drive) and report the results into the thread.

Letter Q could not be assigned cos you had already done it as seen in the last set of Pics.... Pic no#1 post 28

the EFI folder isn't on C: it is on Q now ( volume 2 on Disk 0 is the 100mb EFI Partition which you labelled Q) try instruction no# 9 with letter Q not C instead....at least on my desktop the EFI Partition is the 2nd volume , not sure about all installs of win10 though?

*** I have not had this issue so have not had to Follow Zbooks instructions so YMMV...

*** The NV53 was really hot inside a heavy towel , wrapped 3 or 4 time around it, after 45 mins but it sounds like you are getting yours to boot now at least.

I already did the diagnostic tests before and everything came back clear. I tried to reinstall windows- and after several restarts I was able to install windows successfully and access it. I downloaded the HP diagnostic application and it said that I had several driver updates that I needed with two of them being critical. One was for bios and I believe the other was some chip-set. I installed the bios one and after reboot, the display was blank as usual- except no matter how many times I try to restart and start the device again, the screen remains blank. I'm not sure if it's related to the bios update, or a coincidence. Also I don't know if this helps, but while the laptop was running windows, I plugged an hdmi into an external screen and it wasn't able to display onto the screen. Whether it was because I needed to update the driver or replace a part- I don't know. I tried to do some basic trouble shooting steps such as "hold the windows key and the 'B' button while starting the laptop" to revert to the previous bios, but nothing happens. Once again, I'm not sure if this is related to the update or not, but the screen hasn't been able to display anything after many attempts. I'm not sure if I should give up on this or maybe start a new thread.

Being a longish thread I didn't read it all but the symptoms describe the possibility of the keyboard/hardware key functions of Fn plus another key that toggles between the built-in screen and an added monitor/projector may be the problem. There's also a possibility the inverter that interfaces the LCD flat-panel and the computer is an issue, it may be a separate printed-circuit card or built-onto the motherboard itself.

I made sure to use fn + f4. I got a pop up message that said it couldn't display either because of a driver issue or possibly an issue with the chip/card. Sorry if it wasn't too clear.

And to summarize the thread for anyone that might have any suggestions, I initially had an issue with my laptop freezing within minutes of start up. I tried many methods to fix it, but the only thing that was able to help the issue was installing an earlier version of windows 10. I believe it was 1511. After that, the laptop worked just fine-until around 2 weeks later when I turned it on and the display was completely blank. After turning it on and off several times, I was able to get to to start with a frozen HP logo. Bios worked fine, but whenever I'd start windows, the computer would freeze. And it is after installing the newest version of windows (1803) and doing the bios update, that the screen doesn't turn on at all. Before I'd have to restart it over and over again and it would eventually start, but now it's not starting at all.
