Running on Windows 11... (DOOM II - for anyone that's been living under a rock, for the past 30 years).

The biggest game this century this side of pacman, well actually its Minecraft being the biggest game to date but i would say Doom is the most iconic past Pacman.

Surprisingly there will be many ppl that have never heard of it.

I remember back in '95, DOOM I & II almost shut down the US business world.
People in office jobs around the country would play DOOM at lunch.
The got so hooked on it, that they would keep playing it (on the sly), even after lunch.

It got so bad that they banned it at work. LOL

Running XP games on Windows 10. An easy example of fail is literally looking up the "Metroid Prime 2D" Game Maker games.
These will not run on Windows 10 at all, even under compatibility because of the version of GMaker that was used. Only later GMaker games will work.

    How I run it?

    A) Vmware Windows XP. There is a way to find the key hidden on the disc. Even so the stupid installation will attempt to make a phone call ( verify installation ). I wish there was a magical way not to deal with that at all. I have my XP installed and when I want to use a certain $@%$%% ( some variants of director for instance ) I just load that. No problem and easy.

    B) Windows emulator - Yes there are a couple like for Windows 95 and if that is true then you can also have Windows XP but these are resource hogs and meant for expensive setups. Not $100 dollars rehash, reuse, recycle setups like mine. I mean like your machine needs to be good to use these.

    C) Dual booting is the past, you should be able to run all OS on your desktop right now

Not sure I understand all that ?

And if dual booting is a thing of the past, how do I run windows xp if only windows 10 is installed?

Haha yeah not something i experienced but i have heard stories like that. People in call center or office jobs playing game s like Doom or Ultima on the companies internet or over lan. Staying back after hours and the bosses think they are doing more work but actually they are just gaming lol.

Back then the internet was not as common in the home like today, lots of ppl had it but many didn't. I would say the second internet boom is when it really was starting to become in every home like it is now so after y2k.

I've installed football manager 2005 and it is having compatibility problems

It asked me to log in as an administrator, the box was ticked.

Now it is checking compatibility mode, service pack 2 or 3 and nothing happens.

    Supposedly FM 2005 has SafeDisc.
Games with SecuROM or SafeDisc will NOT run on Windows 10.
Even using compatibility mode won't help.

There is a patch that will allow the game to run, but it will make your computer less secure.

Microsoft has removed the drivers that allow those type of games to run.

Therefore... I can't link you to the patch.

Yep disk versions ahh the bane.

idk about FM never played it but some options.

Find community that support those games you like as they usually have cult followings, like the forums for the actual game not just all games like i mean Rollercoaster Tycoon will have a dedicated community forum or discord or several sources of communities in some cases just try to find the main one that is popular.

Look at how those community run the game in question often times you will find opensource continuations of popular games which means the barrier to cd becomes less of a hassle, often in these cases it mean that you need to have the content but no longer require the CD.

nocd patch if there is a valid source for one. Easy way to get a malware if you are not sure probably avoid.

Buy a Digital version online or use a vm or emulator like mentioned.

You do know that DOOM wasn't the first FPS? Or the first to bring office work to a standstill?
That honor belongs to Wolfenstein 3D...

Id Software released Wolfenstein 3D in May 1992. Later called the "grandfather of 3D shooters", it established the genre's popularity and its reputation for fast action and technological advancement. When most of the studio began work on additional episodes for Wolfenstein, id co-founder and lead programmer John Carmack instead began technical research on a new game....

...The working title was Green and Pissed, but Carmack renamed it Doom based on a line from the 1986 film The Color of Money: "'What you got in there?' / 'In here? Doom.'"
Doom (1993 video game) - Wikipedia

It's 16-bit, but nothing that DOSBox can't handle....
