PS; update your 'My computer' specs. They do not correlate to the HP laptop you're talking about and your thread title mentions a Compaq ?

    Hi,
Please do try DriverMax as I suggested near the beginning. Free. At this stage you've nothing much to lose.

Also try downloading and running Piriform's Speccy to see if it shows your camera and what type it is.

    It's shown here under Peripherals.

    Okay thanks Guys.
I tried most of the things suggested.
I even tried dism/..... restorehealth and sfc /scannow
It found problems and fixed them, but not the webcam.
Speccy does not list the webcam under peripherals.
Its not my anti virus, I tried disabling that and opening the cam app.
I think my only option is to "roll back" Windows 10 to windows 7.
The cam definitely worked in 7.
    EDIT:
Whats the deal with 10 Creator? I never heard of this before.

I believe in Windows 10, the camera is now located under system devices instead of imaging devices

Maybe that's so in the Creator's build- maybe it depends on the device.

The Creator's build clearly (from people's experience and difficulties) uses a different set of driver data to that used for the Anniversary build. If no compatible driver - or the wrong one (see my early notes from HP for you) - you may not be provided with a driver.

It almost seems the hardware is not 'visible' in some way.

Remember that if you update to a non-approved OS, there's no absolute guarantee that everything will work.

I suggest you use HP's forum and try to find out what success others have had with your laptop model or family- that is far more specific to your issue than a general forum on win 10.

    Thanks guys.
It may be a few days before I respond again since I am travelling.
Thanks again for all the useful help and advice.

P.S. I have not updated my system spec because the laptop in question is not my main system.
It is only is only use sporadically.
