Lost connection to couple of HDDs
I recently purchased a WD MyCloud HDD. Hooked it into a vacant Ethernet port on my router and tethered another HDD through the MyCloud USB port. I'm in the process of using the setup as a backup for my other computer drives. I haven't got the setup to work properly, but my big problem now is that my computer has lost connection to both drives.
It all started when the drive names had a big red X when viewed in File Explorer and a message "this connection has not been restored". I googled solutions for this phrase and got the remedy to use the commands:
net use * /del /yes
net use /persistent:no
I did as directed and now the drives don't show up at all in File Explorer or Disk Management. The WD MyCloud does show in Settings/Devices/Connected Devices/Other Devices. Clicking on the HDD gives only the option "Remove Device".
Possibly I can remove the device and then allow Windows to rediscover it, but my fear is that I will lose my backup that has taken about a week to develop (a couple TB and the WD MyCloud "SmartWare" is SLOW and has required a few restarts). I don't even know if remove/reinstall will work. It seems with previous OSs there was a command to search for new hardware. Where is that in 10?
In short, I've messed something up and would like advice on how to proceed to get the connection to MyCloud HDD and it's tethered partner restored.
