Hi all, so I too, have a LIDE 35 scanner and am running Windows 10 (Version 1803 build 17134.706, FWIW). I very seldom scan items and wasn't about to go splurge on a new scanner after removing this one from 10+ years of hibernation in it's box. My phone has a camera scanner app, but it just doesn't do the same high quality scan you get from a good flatbed scanner.

So after a couple of hours of googling suggestions and tinkering with downloads, I finally got it figured out and yes, I wanted to post another success story. I want to contribute a couple of helpful hints that either weren't posted or that I missed on this thread.

I was able to use the Windows 7 (x64) LiDE 60 driver from Canon's web site (link via a thread in OP's posting) because it first appeared to me that Canon wasn't going to allow me to download any drivers due to detecting my Win10 OS. Then I realized there was a dropdown menu that would let me choose an OS.... the "Windows 7 (x64)" option was the only choice that provided a download option for me.

A couple of things I did wrong - I ran the setup.exe in the download file hoping it would install my driver. Nope. Use a rar or zip utility to extract the setup.exe file, then use that utility again to open the setup.exe program and extract the CNQL60.inf file from that. This is covered a couple of times earlier in this thread, I didn't read or comprehend it correctly. All you really need in that .inf file. Once extracted (I just placed mine in the C:\Windows directory) then plug your scanner in.

Another issue I had - getting the driver installed. You really need to use the Windows "Device Manager" utility as outlined in this thread. For me, I tried a couple of different other methods like Settings, and "Devices and Printers". The Device Manager program was the only one that worked for me with installing the driver. RollinJukebox explains this very well in post #10, it worked perfectly for me.

Side note, I did not install the Toolbox software, as I use Adobe ImageReady and Photoshop to import my scanner images. It worked fine and opens Adobe's "Scangear CS" as the scan utility. (I did download the toolbox software in case I need it at some point in the future.)

Also, wanted to quickly add that I didn't need to jump through any extra hoops as far as disabling "Device Driver Signing" (mentioned in OP's post) and I did not try any third party/generic drivers. Really, it was a matter of download, extract the inf, then set up the driver install with Device Manager.

Thanks to everyone who contributed helpful info in this thread. Really amazing job, and I don't have to throw out my 15+ year old scanner that now still works beautifully in 2019. :)

    Hi to all.

    Windows 10, version 1903, OS Build 18362.778

I followed the instructions of the previous post by magicmk, which follow some instructions from the original post, but without success. Here are two additional steps that helped me to succeed. The 1st one is a variation of the steps followed by magicmk. The 2nd is not described by magickmk or others. I found it in this video

    YouTube

For conveniency, here are all the steps

[0] Plug the scanner into a usb port. In the Device manager (right click to the windows label into the lower left corner of the Desktop and select Device Manager from the menu you see) you should be able to see a device named 'CanonScan' with a yellow triangle enclosing an exclamation mark. This means that the listed device is not working (problematic or absent device driver)

[1]. Use a rar or zip utility to extract the setup.exe file (canon scan lide 60, windows 7, x64 driver, from canon). Then use again this utility to open the setup.exe program and extract it into a NEW FOLDER.

DO NOT copy/move/alter the CNQL60.inf file from that folder or erase anything from the folder. Moving CNQL60.inf to the Windows folder and installing it from there through 'Update Driver' from Device manager didn't work for me. The installation process of the next step requires not only the CNQL60.inf file but also additional files from the folder that contains it.

[2] Right click on 'CanonScan' in the Device Manager and select 'Update Driver' -> Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer -> Have Disk (here note that there is no need to wait for the system to find 'Canon Inc' in the 'Manufacturer' entry, which also didn't happen for me) -> Then select 'CNQL60.INF' from the folder where it is located in your filesystem -> OK , and the Installation starts

The driver is installed to the folder 'C:\Windows\twain_32\CNQL60' . Check that this is true and copy the full path name of this folder.

[3] After these steps Scanner applications are still not able to use the scanner (though they are able to list it into available scanners for scanning). The solution is to add the TWAIN driver folder to the environment path variable. This step is crucial for the new versions of Windows 10 (I was able to find this step in the video link of 'theNWdigital' given above). So, go to windows 'Find' (the magnifying lens to the lower left corner on Desktop') and then
Find -> Control panel (open it) -> System and Security -> System -> Advanced System Settings (left column in 'System') -> Advanced Tab -> Environment Variables (above 'Cancel' button) -> Select the 'Path' Entry in 'Use Variables' and click 'Edit' -> click 'New' in the new window that appears -> Paste 'C:\Windows\twain_32\CNQL60' WITHOUT THE QUOTES to the empty entry that appears after clicking 'New' -> Click OK

    That's all.

Regarding FREE Win10 scanner applications the following two are popular and nice ones. I have used both with Canon Scan Lide 35. The second one is also a nice Image Viewer with many features (it can also scan files).

    'Not another PDF Scanner 2'
    'FastStone Image Viewer'

Thanks to all people that commented on this topic and helped us all to re-use this nice scanner !
