Disk 2 is my Seagate Utratouch USB drive where I keep all my BUPS. It is not for installing the new OS. I didn't even try, Anyway the system won't even allow me.he system won't even allow me.
My intended purpose is to install it on one of the partitions of DISK 1, but none of these shows in the available partitions I get when the BIOS boots on the the bootable USB drive containing the ISO file set up with RUFUS. With the older computer with the HDD system, I would always get a choice of disks or partitions available to install the OS.

    Tks

Didn't see it mentioned but I once had an ASUS Desktop from 2016 that wouldn't boot USB Thumb or ODDs, turned out they had to be plugged only into one of the USB 2 ports as the BIOS didn't support USB 3, had to rely upon the OS to provide USB 3 as it loaded the drivers for it.

Do you mean that the optical drive may have to be plugged into some other USB slots?I'll try, but I wouldn't know which is USB 2 or USB3

I have 8 USB ports : 4 in the front and 4 in the back. THe ones in the back are not identified, but the 4 in the front are identified as SS...followed by a sign I cannot make out. ..The upper 2 are blue, the lower two are green.

USB 2 ports/plugs usually have black centers and USB 3 have blue centers. However I have seen a motherboard image with red or orange centers. Many times using the oldest things works better.

By USB ports I meant the slots taking the USB cables. . In my case , the 4 front slots do have an internal segment either blue or green .
Is this what you mean by " black or orange centers "? If so, I guess the front ports with blue centers are USB 3. I'll try to connect the Optical drive in sequence to each one of tthem and see if the BIOS finally detects the optical drive..

I think the benedectine Middle Ages monks in the monasteries had an easier job transcribing latin or greek palimpsests .....

USB 3 is the blue centers but there may also be black ports that are combination USB 2 and USB 3, for those it will take trying each to see what works.

Case closed. I returned the computer to Best Buy because I wasn't getting along without a HDD like in the old computer. I just bought a Dell with SSD and HDD, which I still need for several reasons.
    Thanks for your help.

Just bought a brand new desktop PC after my 8-years old PC quit for good. With the old computer HDD SATA drive I was able to set the boot priority in BIOS, typically to install an OS from the installation. CD I wanted to have this option with the new PC and I bought an external optical drive ( Dell).
Unfortunalely, the ASUS BIOS does not detect the external optical drive. and I am therefore unable to boot from the Windows 7 installation CD ( I need this, because I have an oldish literature collection which was designed for Windows 7.

The BIOS only detects the main SSD drive . No other plug-and-play USB devices are detected.. by the BIOS,as I would have ( perhaps wrongly?) expected. They show in Windows Explorer., though)), ). .
The new computer MB is an ASUS D700 ME...
    Is there a way out?

    Thanks

The MB is an ASUS MBD700 ME .
Check if there are BIOS updates available for your motherboard.
