usb-c port and dvd drive question

    Hello,

    Motherboard is Asus B550M-A Prime Wi-Fi II & Bluetooth (DDR4) PRIME B550M-A (WI-FI)|Motherboards|ASUS Global

    1. Is it good or necessary to buy a pc case with USB-C port at the top front of the pc case to future proof?

    2. If the pc case does not have a USB-C port, would it be ok to use a [USB-A male to USB-C female] adapter and plug into the USB-A 2.0 or USB-A 3.0 port at the top front of the pc case? Would the specs?/power?/current?/voltage? on the adapter would act like a real USB-C port?

    3. Is it true that the front USB-A port is lower specs?/power?/current?/voltage? than the USB-A port (soldered at motherboard) at the back of the PC case.

    4. Would it be good to buy a pc case that has top front slot cutout for optical drive and put in a dvd drive? (case example: cooler master nr600 with odd, elite-300 case)
I guess with a dvd drive at the top front, the maximum front fan would be 2 instead of 3, not sure is bad for the temperature airflow cooling.

    Thanks.

    1) Is it a good idea? I think so. Lots of stuff is moving to USB C and the data transfer is a lot faster. Is it necessary? No, not at all. You could always do what I do and run a USB extension cable from the back of the computer's USB C port to the front...

    2) You can use an adapter, but it depends on the connector. USB C is a real PITA (Pain In The Ass) with the Specs in that some USB C cables or connectors may be power delivery or data delivery only, not both. While some are in fact both. Then some only support the USB 3.0 Specs while some support 3.1 or above speeds. You would have to check the Specs of the connector you intend on using. It's all about the wiring and contacts used...

    3) No. I wouldn't think so. The USB header in the front of the PC (that's what it's called, a header) is connected to the motherboard like the rear USB connector. Both would utilize the same motherboard chipset.

    4) All on you. Just make sure you have negative, not positive air flow in the computer case. In other words, air blows OUT not IN. I have my computer set up in a way that air blows out from the side, front and rear and air enters from the top.

I saw the following USB hubs products, if I plug a hub into the pc case front USB-A port, would I be able to connect the maximum devices (to the hub ports) that the hub has and use all devices at the same time?

For example if [1 USB-A become 3 USB-A and 2 USB-C], would I be able to plug in total 5 devices (3 USB-A and 2 USB-C devices) into the hub and use all 5 devices at the same time?

    USB hubs:

    1 USB-A become 4 USB-A and 1 USB-C Amazon.com

1 USB-A become 4 USB-A Amazon.com: UGREEN USB 3.0 Hub, 4 Ports USB A Splitter Ultra-Slim USB Expander for Mouse, Keyboard, Flash Drive, U Disk, Printer Compatible with Laptop, Desktop PC, Xbox, PS5, and More : Electronics

They sell adapters that go into un-used vid card slots on the back of the computer.
So you can have all the ports you want.

    Like these...

Note that the aggregate bandwith to the computer ("stream to host") is 5 Gb/s (theoretical maximum). So how many devices can be operated at the same time depends on how they are used.

It´s better to have at least 10 Gb/s ports in the computer, and "future proof" for me would be to have at least a Thunderbolt 4 or a USB4 port.

If a USB-C device is plugged into A vs B, would there be any difference to the device? Would A and B supply the exact same specifications to the device?

    A. USB-C device is plugged into "[USB-A male to USB-C female] adapter plugged into front PC case USB-A port"

    B. USB-C device is plugged into "Front PC case USB-C port"

They need to ditch usb c and just go with usb4. This will be a hard sale because usb c has been around for a while so its ingrained.

If you don't use a DVD drive very often you can use an external one. However, the external ones are slower than internal ones. For example, I have an ASUS ZenDrive 8X DVD external drive. An internal drive might be 24X DVD. Note the ASUS ZenDrive comes with two cables: USB-C cable and USB-A Y-cable.
