projecting to a monitor and hard drive swapout

i have a 24" monitor and i just got a hp ryzen 3250u and it had a time running the monitor but now it looks like it is running. it said it needed a driver and i went looking and did not find it but it must have found the driver and installed it.

but i have another question i took the hd out of the 6475b laptop and put it in this 3250u laptop and it came up and said it could not find the boot device. so i went into the bios and reset it to legacy. so can anyone tell me if this will affect the ability to get win11 updates? so far i do not see not activated i expect i may see that also. it does say not activated so maybe it will activate if not i will have to jump thru hoops getting it reactivated again also it did say it was ready for win11 not that is gone. and it tells me it now needs some updates so that may reactivate it. if did just ask to reboot so i will reboot and see what happens.

i got this pc so that in a year i can install win11 thru the pc/ it did say it was ready before i swapped it out into this pc now it is gone. i will let you know if it activates and comes back win11 ready after i reboot it. thanks

ok i must have turned off secure boot when i switched it over to legacy and swapped out the HD so outside of inserting the iso and reinstalling windows does anyone think this pc will reactivate in a day or so? i hate to go thru all that work and then find out it would reactivate in a day or so

We suggest installing a new SSD and doing a Clean Install of Windows 11, in UEFI mode with Secure Boot enabled.

You can install Windows 11 or Legacy Boot without TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled from a USB Flash drive Using Rufus. How to Install Windows 11 on Legacy BIOS without Secure Boot or TPM 2.0
Be aware that after the first Windows 11 Upgrade, it will fail saying you need UEFI, Secure Boot enabled.

thanks i got the second screen finally windows added the driver and that works i now have win10 home i just went and reinstalled windows from the iso and it gave me win10 home. i had pro but it is what it is. the pc with the original drive did have pro installed. so now in a day of so windows will tell me i'm ready for win11 this pc meets the requirements it did with the other drive in it so it should with this drive. i truned on secure boot again and the tp retruned to 2.0 i do not want to do the install without secure boot because i do not want to go thru this every year getting the new updates. so having a pc that is win11 ready is what i got so it will get win11 soon. thanks

I am glad you got it sorted.
When Windows was first installed on your computer from the manufacturer, it saves the product key in the Bios.
Also, if you sign in with a Microsoft Account (Email) the Windows Product key is associated with your account. The Product key determines if you get Pro or Home.

that is strange. as my account is the pro version. i'm almost sure this pc had pro on it, but now that your saying it is in the bios then maybe not. i'm not going to put the old drive back in. but i may put it in the old pc that will boot up using that drive as it is in legacy mode. i do not know how much difference there is in home and pro. and if there is not much difference then i will let it be.

yes after i reinstalled win10 and it ran updates the monitor turned on, also it reactivated with a digital key. but i have used that iso on a lot of pcs and they always came in at win10 pro so that surprised me i got the home version. if i could find that in the bios i may bea ble to change it. anyway thanks the window tool for checking win11 ready told me this pc is win11 ready and i expect in a day or so it will show up telling me i can install it. also in updates it tells me this pc can run win11. i know i can install it from an iso i have one but i want windows to install it so i then know i will get all the security updates, and not have to go thru this reinstall every year. so i wonder how long it will be before windows tells us we have to get another new pc?

remember a few years ago google said there chromebooks would be the last pc you ever had to get and they would be updating them in the background all the time. i had 4 and then all of a sudden they made you get new books because they were not selling enough of them.

If you have a Windows 10 Pro license you can press the Windows Key +I (Settings) System/Activation and choose to Change Product Key. Type in your Pro key.
For the normal Home user, there is more security, but not much difference between Pro and Home, Windows 10 Home vs. Windows 10 Pro

A few very minor technical corrections. The manufacturer burns the product key into BIOS at the factory, it has not Windows that saves it there. Also, it is not the product that gets associated with the Microsoft Account, it is the digital license for Windows for that device that gets associated.

ok that makes sense. but i had pro under my email and when i entered the email it did not change it to win10 pro. i wonder if this pc is just capable it has 2 cores and i just read the requirements and i think it said to get pro i need more cores. it does have the win11 requirements as now it is telling me to install win11. i tried entering the win 7 key i had registered to me from years ago and that failed. maybe if i get a cd drive and then run that cd and install win7pro and then do an update to 10 it will become pro?
this is the infor for this pc https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06617069
