Windows 10 - USB Drive and USB Hub issues

Help required, my work PC is used to add and remove USB drives on a regular basis - recently the PC doesn't always recognise newly added USB drives, this can be USB sticks 2.5" HDD's and 3.5" HDD's via a caddy.

Sometimes I can get them to be recognised if I go into hardware manager and find the physical drive and enable it and assign a drive letter, but windows will no longer do this for most newly added drives.

I've tried the scan now option to repair from command prompt but I still get the issue.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Windows 10 Pro 22H2 OS Build is 19045.2546.

Thanks, I did that but still having to navigate to Disk Management and add drive letters via that, although some drives are not always being seen (connected via a USB hub), sometimes they are. Its a very odd issue, not sure if the hub is playing up - but it works with some drives and not others.

most the USB drives are the 3.5" varieties.

I've cleared down old drives but am still not having much luck, and I really don't want to have to re-install windows fully as I'll lose a great deal of applications and settings.

I would try updating the chipset drivers or USB 3.0 drivers if applicable. I had a weird issue once. Windows would not see any USB flash drive or USB hard disk, only mouse and keyboard. I went in Device Manager and replaced any Intel USB device with the respective generic USB device (right-click, Update drivers, second option, again second option and pick the generic device from the list). After restarting with the generic USB devices I could connect any USB flash drive without any problem.

Thanks will give that a go to see if it helps, if not then it looks like I'll be re-installing Windows at some point in the next few weeks. Fun times.

This might sound weird, but I had a similar problem with USB connections being intermittent. Cleaning the dust and fuzz out of the USB port solved it.
