has the win7 install completed yet? Those motherboards are rare so they are quite expensive now.

Boot the latest 10 iso you download boot from that with just the 1 disk and during install delete ALL partions windows will create correct paritions if it asks for key just skip it will then activate via MS server
Hello @Trapper,
Did you have other disks attached when you performed aClean Install
?
It is highly recommended that you disconnect [ temporarily unplug ] ALL other Disks [ HDD's/SSD's/USB's ]BEFORE
installing Windows. The reasons for this are . . .
- You
CAN'T
accidentallyOVERWRITE
a connected Disk.- The
BOOTLOADER
[ boot configuration files ] will get installed on the correct Disk [ because Windows has the tendency to install the bootloader rather randomly on ANY connected Disk ], and thereforeSTOP
problems with booting once the installation is complete.
Once the installation is complete . . .
- Check that the OS boots correctly.
- Check if the boot order in the
BIOS/UEFI
settings are correct [ ifNOT
, adjust accordingly ].Reconnect
the other Disks.
EXPLANATION:
Windows uses a different partition structure forBIOS/UEFI
. During the installation process, Windows asks which Disk / Partition you want to use for the WindowsC:\
drive, it doesNOT
however, necessarily use the same Disk for the other Partitions, and can therefore incorrectly create the hidden recovery partition on ANY attached Disk.
Additionally, forBIOS
, if another Disk is left attached, and at a latter stage you remove that Disk, you will find that the OS willNOT
boot. If you check theBIOS
, you will see that the OS has assigned theAHCI/RAID
setting instead of theLEGACY
setting and set it up asRAID
, therefore breaking the boot process.
I hope this helps.
Hi All.
Just as I thought it could not get any worse, it did.
The reinstall of W7 today was fine until the end when the PC rebooted and went back to the beginning of installing W7, in other words it installed it twice.
I then inserted my W10 ISO, that continued until it asked for my license number which of course I did not have as W10 was a free upgrade at the time. When I went through this yesterday W10 did not ask for the license number so I assume it accepted my W7 number today it did not.
I then discovered that somewhere along the line my Belkin Network Adapter stopped so no internet. I attempted to reinstall the driver from the Belkin CD but that failed as well.
I really do not know where to go now or what to try. Maybe install an old HDD and see if I can install something on that in case it is the SSD that is causing the problems.
EDIT.
I removed the SSD and replaced it with my W10 HDD, the one that played up at the beginning of this saga. It loaded with all the speed of a tortoise running through mud. But it DID load and open.
Now what?
Order a new HDD and use MR to copy the image across.
Order a new SSD and pray it works this time.
I don't dare turn it off in case it fails again,
And my internet adapter is no working again. Yippee.
WHAT I REALLY need to do is find out why the W10 HDD is so very, very slow. FYI I am using a very old laptop to do this writing.
I will screenshot disk management on the PC and upload it.

take out the installation media when it goes for the reboot.the PC rebooted and went back to the beginning of installing W7, in other words it installed it twice.
Back on the PC here it has rebooted the desktop quite few times but is still working.....
Below is the dick management screenshot.
Is there anything within (or outside) Windows that can help with find the problem with this slow opening?

Thanks for the tips SIW2, we learn a little more every day.
CDI Screenshot:
This shows no apparent faults that I can see. No indication of why it would be so slow.
that wd is quite decent for a mechanical disk, but you will see a very big difference using an ssd.
my mechanical disks are very slow with win10 or win11 installed. Not so bad with win7.
A sata ssd is fine. Nvme disk not really necessary.
Hi I thought the SSD would be better but so far it has caused me nothing but aggravation. I am not after blisteringly fast but a lot faster than this HDD would be nice.
I suggest attaching your ssd and transferring the win 10 installation to it using diskgenius os migration.
free version is fine DiskGenius: Data Recovery, Partition Manager, Backup & Disk Utilities
1) open admin cmd prompt and type :
reagentc /disable
(then press enter)
2) Use os migration and select the ssd as the target disk, just looking for some pics...
click Os Migration
select the target disk
can optionally adjust partition sizes for target disk or just click start
click hot migration
