    Scanning (pictures / document) problem

Hello,Scanning problem, please help.I always used to make the scanning with "PaintShop Pro", the scanned picture / document was sent to the program to make whatever corrections or editing and save as .jpg file.Recently I tried to scan some documents, opened "PaintShop Pro", clicked on the scanning button in the toolbar and got the scanning window, mouse pointer turned into a blue rotating circle, moments later got an error message as on attached screenshot.Clicked on "Switch to" button as said on the error message, it opened the whole applications menu including the Start menu. Then could not remove nor close the Scanning window with the error message and "PaintShop" program, closed the program from the "Task Manager", the scanning window with the error message remained on the screen. Had to sign-out and signed-in, its gone. What I did so far:Reinstalled the scanner's driver - problem not solved.Uninstalled "PaintShop Pro" and reinstalled it - problem is still there. So I am asking for help.Answers will be appreciated.ThanksMotimWindow 10 pro, 1909 x64, Winver 18363.1377

    Hello @Motim,

Let us first check for Driver errors etc. Can you please perform the following . . .

Check for ANY Problem Device Errors

[1] Click on this TenForums link => Batch Scripts / Programs.
[2] Click the direct download link Find_ANY_Problem_Devices.bat in the MENU.
    [3] Run the .bat file.

    • If you want detailed information about the .bat file then scroll down the thread until you get to the relevant section.

    If there are NO ERRORS:

You will receive the message NO PROBLEM DEVICES WERE FOUND!, and NO text file is created on the Desktop.

    If there are ERRORS:

There will be a Prob_Devices.txt file created on the Desktop.

    EITHER:

Copy & Paste the results into your post using the [CODE] tags . . .

[1] Open the Prob_Devices.txt file in Notepad.
[2] Press the Ctrl + A keys together.
[3] Press the Ctrl + C keys together.
[4] In your post, click the Hashtag icon #.
[5] Click INSIDE the [CODE]Here[CODE] tags and press the Ctrl + V keys together.

    • In your post it will look like this . . .

    Code:

    <<< Results Here >>>

    OR:

UPLOAD the file => How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello,
    Thanks for the answer.
Downloaded the file "Find_ANY_Problem_Devices.bat" and ran it.
Nothing was found as on attached screenshot.Scanning (pictures / document) problem-after-running-bat-file.jpg
Is there something else I can do ?
    Thanks

Did you recently upgrade from Windows 7 or XP to Windows 10?

    Hello,
    Thanks.
No. Windows 10 runs on my computer almost 3 years. All I did recently as far as I remember, installed some MS updates, uninstalled Adobe flash player, updated graphics card driver.
Ran sfc scan to chk the system, all is OK.
    Is there anything else ?
    Answers are appreciated.
    Thanks

If the drivers for the scanner have been installed but a program has an issue and to verify operation, I go to Start, W section, Windows Accessories and Windows Fax and Scan, see if that works. Another issue I've run into with All-in-One units is whether they will work with USB 3 or only with USB 2.

Looks like you have another scanner application working at the same time, or interrupted scanning or processing, maybe the Canon Scangear software. Close that.

The WIA method is Windows image acquisition. Which is what your picture shows you are using.

The Photo App, and the Scan App also uses the WIA method.
    So try those.

Try changing the acquisition method from WIA to TWAIN. Paintshop Pro should be able to do that. Is it a very old version ?

The Canon Scangear application uses the TWAIN driver.

    IrfanView can use either method.

Windows Fax & Scan looks to be legacy version of the Scan App using WIA/WSD.

Try scanning the image using the scan software first, and then import into Paint Shop. See if that solves the issue. Most programs (along with newer versions of Windows) stopped allowing you to scan directly into them awhile ago.

I had (still have) a Nikon Coolscan LS4000ED dedicated film/slide scanner and since Windows 7, I could no longer scan directly into Photoshop. Here's my post on that here - Getting your Nikon Coolscan to work on W7 x64 - Page 27 - Windows 7 Help Forums

BTW my thread on getting the scanner to work under Windows 7 (and now 10) - Getting your Nikon Coolscan to work on W7 x64 - Windows 7 Help Forums

Anyway, if you're trying to scan directly into the photo app, that may be the issue. Try scanning the image using the scan software, then import the scanned image into the app.

BTW - how old is your version of Paint Shop Pro?

    Let us know.

In that case why does the Scan App, IrfanView, Paint, Paint.NET, Windows Fax & Scan all of which I have installed do just that...with a Canon AIO.

Having said that the Canon scan application is a lot better, I always use it over what the WIA/WSD enabled applications can do.

Yes, you are right. My recommendation still stand though.

Edit... I knew I had this somewhere and why I said what I said.... This post - Twain driver for Windows 10 64 bit?. Then this thread - TWAIN Driver for Windows 10

    Just FYI
