Accidentally Borked the Driver on my Logitech G710+ Keyboard

    So I did something stupid...

I was adding in drivers for a development board I was working with, and for some reason I didn't think it worked, so I did it again. What I didn't notice is that the program that replaces the drivers had advanced to the next device in the list, which was my keyboard. It set the driver to WinUSB, thus borking my keyboard entirely.

The problem is that I can't seem to undo what I did. I removed all of the keyboards from Device Manager, unplugged the KB and rebooted. Then I plugged it back in and no lights, no typing still. I went to the Logitech website and downloaded the new driver package to no avail. The software will install, but the driver doesn't seem to change, so no lights, no typing. Then I force uninstalled the drivers for all keyboards and loaded Logitech drivers from Windows 10 (20H2). Still no go.

I would like to get this fixed because I need a lighted keyboard in my office and I don't want to use the Logitech G15 that I'm currently typing on because it is a collector's item and is in pristine shape. (also, the lighted keys are a little dim under the glare of my monitor.)

I can't use the program that messed up the drivers in the first place, because it doesn't see the Logitech drivers, just the dev board ones.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Hello @Gurn Blanston,

Have you got a System Image or a System Restore Point that is prior to this happening that you could use?

I had a System Restore point from the day before so I went back to that. I still can't type on the keyboard, but the special function keys for audio and gaming work. So do the lights. I think this driver might have altered the firmware in the keyboard.

If you have a System Restore Point prior to the one you used, you could also try that one. If that doesn't work, you could always go back to the one you used.

Can you please perform the following . . .

Check for ANY Problem Device Errors

[1] Click on this TenForums link => Batch Scripts / Programs.
    [2] Goto the heading DXDIAG [ DirectX Diagnostics ] . . .
[3] Download and Run the .bat file named Find_ANY_Problem_Devices.bat.

    If there are NO ERRORS:

You will receive the message NO PROBLEM DEVICES WERE FOUND!, and NO text file is created on the Desktop.

    If there are ERRORS:

There will be a Prob_Devices.txt file created on the Desktop.

    EITHER . . .

Copy & Paste the results into your post using the [CODE] [/ CODE] tags [ see below ].

    • Open Prob_Devices.txt in Notepad.
    • Press the Ctrl + A keys together.
    • Press the Ctrl + C keys together.
    • In your post, click the Hashtag icon #.
    • Click INSIDE the [CODE] [/ CODE] tags and Press the Ctrl + V keys together.

In your post it will look like this . . .

    Code:

    <<< Results Here >>>

    OR . . .

Upload the Prob_Devices.txt file => How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums.

    I hope this helps.

Can you not force-install the correct device driver - once you deploy Logitech package - by going to Device Manager, selecting the keyboard, right-clicking Update Driver Software, Browse for Driver... and Let me pick from... and then choosing from the list?

I should think that ought to do the trick?

    Woohoo! I got it working.

I tried the restore point strategy, but for some reason each restore point would fail and Windows would revert to the current point. I also tried to force install the driver but that didn't work either...

So what I finally did was to edit the registry and remove every single driver listed under "Logitech G710" and rebooted without the G710 keyboard plugged in. Then I went to Device Manager and removed the G710 (which was surprisingly still there) and ticked the box to uninstall the driver as well, in case I missed any in the registry. I then unplugged my temporary keyboard and rebooted. Before starting the PC again, I plugged in the G710 and booted up. The lights came on and I was able to type in my password. Windows then set up the keyboard as a new device and I loaded the Logitech software again to force the driver to be current.

All is now well, but what an ordeal. Windows was not letting go of that bad driver for nothing. lol

Anyway, guys, thanks for the help. I was able to use your ideas to help figure this out. Much appreciated.
