Printer Queue Adding Something Every 2 Minutes

My Brother printer is not working. Cable is hooked up as when I hit scan on the utility, the printer chirps or squawks a bit before a notification that something is in queue and I should clear it. Doesn't help of course.

I just went out to the garage to do some work and came back in to find something added every two minutes, exactly. I had left this box open when I went out and when I came in, it was populated as per the pic attached.

    ????

My operating system is Windows 10 Pro.
    Printer is Brother DCP-7040
I uninstalled and reinstalled driver, restarting system several times.

    Clutching at straws here: -
I see the bottom of the list shows connected via USB but the other print jobs don't show this?
Is the printer networked? If so then the print job may be coming from another computer on the network.
If it is a WiFi Direct printer maybe you have a next door neighbour with the same printer but why they would send the same thing to print every 2 minutes is odd.
Another possibility - Have you or your neighbour been hacked?

Could also be an issue with a Windows 10 update or two earlier that broke USB printing, the list I saw had Brother, Canon, Panasonic and Ricoh brands as involved but I had to deal with an HP. So far Upgrading to Version 2004 or 2009/20H2 cures the issue.

This is what I found currently.

    I don't understand the 2004 and 2009 references when mine says 2020.

One more thing. Why is my thread in drivers and hardware? This is a WIN 10 issue, not a driver or the printer issue.

    I found this:

The cumulative update for Windows 10, version 2004 and 20H2 is KB 4592438 and it comes with these fixes:

Addresses a security vulnerability by preventing applications that run as a SYSTEM account from printing to "FILE:" ports. To address this issue in the future, make sure your applications or services run as a specific user or service account.

Don't know where you see the 2020 but put winver in the Windows Key + R box, will give Version number and Build number. The first 2 numbers of 2004 mean the year and the second 2 numbers are the release month, there's been 2 Version Upgrades each year with monthly Build updates [or more often as needed].

All hardware needs drivers which are software that gets installed so Windows knows how to run things.

    Thanks.

    winver gives me this:

I understand all hardware require drivers. However, this issue is neither the hardware or the driver. Unless of course, the OS is considered the main driver.

Sounds like the printer has simply expired and it's time for a new printer? How old is it? Maybe the drivers are no longer compatible with later versions/builds of Windows 10?

Maybe it is not the drivers but the firmware so have you updated that? How to update firmware | Brother UK .

It's old but I did get it going.
I stopped print spooler under services, uninstalled and reinstalled the same driver that I previously had installed and now it's working. I tried this the second time because the first time, a pop up came on stating it was automatically configured and ready to use. Don't know if turning off print spooler helped, but it worked.

    Computers....what a pain.

    Printer Queue is now empty.

I assume you started the print spooler again? I believe you cannot print if it is stopped?
